Unequip weapon and just punch.
That sounds odd - do you have by any chance changed keybindings? Suffice to say - your fist should stay and no weapon should equip when you attack.
You first go into your inventory to the weapons tab. There you look for the weapons you want to be able to easy swtich too. You mark them as Favorite. Once you have done that you can get back into game.
Now i use a controller and then use Dpad, that cros thingy on a controller. This opens up a weapons wheel, in there you find all the weapons you have marked as favorite. Select the weapon you need and have at it!
Doesn't work from the quick select.
It should then just pull up your fists, LMB punch RMB guard V uppercut.
R does not unequip the gun. It just holsters it.
You have to go to your inventory and when you see the list of guns one of them will have a little grey triangleish thingy in the upper left corner to show that it is currently selected. Just left click on that weapon to make the selection mark go away so that none of your weapons are selected.
Now you will punch.
So if you e.g. let favorite slot 1 empty and set a pistol to favorite slot 2, hitting 1 on the keyboard won't equip your fist.
You really have to go to the inventory and unequip any gun or melee weapon. This has to be repeated every time you switch to a gun or a melee weapon.
