Target lock and get out of seat key are the same.
Imagine designing this game, and deciding that a key to lock on to a target while flying, and to slowly get out of your seat are the same key.

No fast animations for getting in to and out of pilot seat while ship in combat, nothing to stop you from getting out of your seat accidentally.

Also no bug report forums on the steam discussion boards. A lot of bright idea's from Bethesda.

Damned annoying. But how can you rebind it?

Incredibly annoying, and there's no obvious way I can see to change it.
A real winner of an idea for sure. They could have easily made it U or something, almost anything else, or at least given us the option to do so.

Never had an issue with it. You need to deliberately hold E for a long time to stand up.

That they would be the same key should not be a problem but that getting out of your seat would activate while you are in the middle of a fight becomes a serious problem though.

It was only a problem for me for a while when I used a 120fps UI mod and hold to get up was near instant. And that was a me problem. With the default UI and even the 60fps ship UI one, it's never been an issue again.

Unless target locking is not responsive enough and that you end up holding your key too long because of that. Or some similar reason. Lilke no immediately recognized potential target for lock. Still sucks though.

I agree. I have rebound the E key to the ' key for convienance. When you jump into Kryx (sp?) to work on depleting the Crimson Fleet you have a lot of targets, I keep hitting the ' key too many times and wind up walking away from the fight... Even with 100 ship parts I die.

It is madness that the key to get up and walk around is also the target lock for the weapons system...

Maybe a smarter - more experiaced modder may know of a way to seperate the two funcitons...

The R key would be a good candidate as it is already tied into the ship targeting perk.

This is console creep happening which has always been an annoying thing PC players have to dealt with. I think even worse is how some perks like robotics and intimidation into the scanner option which shutdown all the other menu options when it is up.

E is a bad choice for dual purpose things. Technically, you flash the E key to target a vessel. You do not hold it down to lock the target. Once there is a lock, you hold down the R key to close up the target and select what you want to hit. In the heat of battle, I find myself pressing E instead of R. When I get up from the seat, I sit back down as soon as the animations stop. It is sort of the same issue in Fallout 76, every once in while I shed my power armor in the midst of battle... At least in Starfield, keys can be set to other things.

Which is a bit weird compared to controller binding; X for targeting system, hold X for docking, A for selecting target, hold A for hail.

So is it tap X to select the ship as the option be targeted? I stopped buying consoles a couple generations of them ago, it still seem that the idea of we have to use a key for anything we possible can comes in from consoles. Earlier I watched a coming in 2024 video a good 40% of the games had a developing for PC with consoles at a future date. With respect to the consoles players I think this is the better tact, if you develop for both types of system you just seem to make a overburden UI when it isn't necessary.

BGS have always had inteface consistency issues. Fallout uses different keys for the same interaction on different things. It's such a pain in the ass.

I think that is where it really started for Bethesda although Starfield has taken it to the next level of push and hold versus tap the button.

It's keyboard related, in the sense that the sensitivity of one's keyboard determines the action.
I was having trouble docking with space stations. I had stopped using the 'E' key other than for hails, because my character would exit the cockpit.
I have to gently tap the 'E' key to keep from exiting the cockpit. Binding so many actions to one key was a mistake. There are many keys that aren't used or used only when on the ground. The game really should allow rebinding controls.

Yeah funny that controller functions completely different. You have to hold the B button to get up but only 9ther feature it has in space is to clear target.

I get carpel tunnel if use mouse and keyboard like that so use my ps5 controller. Other than xferring 1 ammo out of 3k or renaming things, never touch keyboard.
