A real winner of an idea for sure. They could have easily made it U or something, almost anything else, or at least given us the option to do so.
That they would be the same key should not be a problem but that getting out of your seat would activate while you are in the middle of a fight becomes a serious problem though.
It was only a problem for me for a while when I used a 120fps UI mod and hold to get up was near instant. And that was a me problem. With the default UI and even the 60fps ship UI one, it's never been an issue again.
Unless target locking is not responsive enough and that you end up holding your key too long because of that. Or some similar reason. Lilke no immediately recognized potential target for lock. Still sucks though.
It is madness that the key to get up and walk around is also the target lock for the weapons system...
Maybe a smarter - more experiaced modder may know of a way to seperate the two funcitons...
This is console creep happening which has always been an annoying thing PC players have to dealt with. I think even worse is how some perks like robotics and intimidation into the scanner option which shutdown all the other menu options when it is up.
So is it tap X to select the ship as the option be targeted? I stopped buying consoles a couple generations of them ago, it still seem that the idea of we have to use a key for anything we possible can comes in from consoles. Earlier I watched a coming in 2024 video a good 40% of the games had a developing for PC with consoles at a future date. With respect to the consoles players I think this is the better tact, if you develop for both types of system you just seem to make a overburden UI when it isn't necessary.
I think that is where it really started for Bethesda although Starfield has taken it to the next level of push and hold versus tap the button.
It's keyboard related, in the sense that the sensitivity of one's keyboard determines the action.
I was having trouble docking with space stations. I had stopped using the 'E' key other than for hails, because my character would exit the cockpit.
I have to gently tap the 'E' key to keep from exiting the cockpit. Binding so many actions to one key was a mistake. There are many keys that aren't used or used only when on the ground. The game really should allow rebinding controls.
I get carpel tunnel if use mouse and keyboard like that so use my ps5 controller. Other than xferring 1 ammo out of 3k or renaming things, never touch keyboard.
