I did notice if you can get your Security perk up to rank 2 it'll highlight the keys you need or something? It does seem to make it somewhat easier I guess. The only other thing I can think is if someone makes a mod to automatically unlock every locked box, like a skeleton key mod or something.
Bethesda clearly is overestimating people's ability or desire to spend that much time on a lockpicking minigame, from a design standpoint, making something overly complex and tedious doesn't make it fun.
It requires logic and a little thinking ahead.
"Yes, this circle fits in the outer ring. If I place it i have these remaining gaps to fill. Do I have any remaining circles that will fill those gaps?"
Just because a circle can fit in the ring is no guarantee that it should be placed in that ring.
