[SOLVED**] Is there a way to disable / remap the tilde ~ key for opening the console?
** IF you have a Corsair RGB keyboard and the latest version of iCUE...

EDIT: Great News! I was able to create an assignment in iCUE which disables the tilde key and all combinations thereof (CTRL, ALT, SHIFT) when the lock button is pressed which normally locks out the Windows key to prevent suddenly dropping out of a game due to an errant key press.

Tested in Notepad, it worked. Tested in Starfield, that worked too!

KnightWolf mentioned that VoiceAttack also works for this purpose, so AutoHotKey may also work as well.

ORIGINAL POST:
I keep hitting the tilde key by mistake when reaching for ESC or TAB!

I seem to remember (perhaps incorrectly given the lack of info returned by Google) that in the old, original Skyrim, I had to modify an ini file with something like "bEnableConsole=1" in order for the tilde key to even open the console. If this was true, the information has been buried by info about subsequent versions of Skyrim (SE, Anniversary).

I could brute force the tilde key to be remapped using other software, I have a Corsair K70 MK2 and iCue. But then I wonder which program intercepts the keypress first, iCue or Starfield?

I thought about using AutoHotKey, but I'd really rather not install another program unless absolutely necessary.

Anyone remember the specific ini file modification, or am I thinking of another game?

I would like to know if there is an option to just delete some keys. Currently it seems like I can only remap them but not leave them unmapped.

I was having the same issues for both OP and your comment. But I did find out that you can disable or clear a hotkey. Basically I use the left arrow key and remembered what it was originally set for so I could remap it later. Once you click on a keybind area when it is used by another key it will give you the option to clear it out with the R key. It takes some tries to get it right.

Also, Just figured out how to disable the Tilde key by using Voice attack program. Set it up so when you press the ` key it will not allow the key to passthrough.

So, VoiceAttack does work with Starfield? I have been using it with other games for a long time and was hoping to use it with Starfield as it helps physically.

Also - are there a lot of keyboard keys (key binds) used in Starfield or is it mostly joystick/controller?

Any info would be great - getting excited about SF.

Based on what you said, it appears that Voice Attack intercepts the key press before Starfield does, this looks promising. I'm going to try to set up something in iCUE to see if it works. I will post my results either way.

Just had the idea to check, if there is a readable config file. It should be possible to just delete the bindings there.

Yes. But you must run VA in as admin to work in most all games. Also if anyone is interested Stream Deck has an icon set that you can use.

Good to know about Icue. I have a full setup for Icue. That maybe something I would want to do for other games also. Locking those keys helps.

It's obviously a developer command or shortcut, if they would put it on the minus on the right side of the keyboard I would be happy because it's not like I don't need that key, tilde one as it's literally one button away from actually, no disrespect, being useful to the player, opposite to the minus key on the right side or if your keyboard is shorter the backspace key for in game.

Tilde as it stands has a very again kind of important purpose at least for me in terms that I actually like to bind it to something in game and also like to use it since it's my Steam shortcut key (with a combination of some other function keys like CTRL or CTRL-ALT-Tilde for the overlay and ALT-SHIFT-Tilde for screenshots)...
Microsoft Powertoys does it.
