Play button GREEN but won't launch.
Restarted Steam, relogged Steam, verified game files, restarted PC, updated Windows, updated GPU drivers, mobo drivers, cpu drivers. Did everything - the play button has been green but when hitting play it just says "running" and then instantly back to play and quickly 100% cloud syncs. Can't launch from the exe. can't launch from the desktop shortcut or from clicking the system tray/taskbar icon either. I got the key from buying a Ryzen 9 processor and got the email from them Aug 31. My steam page shows Starfield Digital Premium Edition upgrade (checked) and preorder (checked).

I had that issue on gamepass, and I spammed it a bunch of times until an update window came up and downloaded some crazy 115gig update.

I dont know much about this but if I google this issue regarding other games this comes up consistently "Some people seemingly solved the issue by enabling AES through their bios, which is an option I don't appear to have. I updated my drivers, restarted, verified file integrity, disabled overlays etc." Keep in mind this is a couple of years ago and from another game

I was following that trail last night as well. It looks to me like my AES is on for my chip, so that shouldn't be the issue for me. I used CPUZ and it says AES is there.
Ah okay well atleast we narrowed that down

I have Crucial P3 Plus M.2 SSD's . I tried on two different ones last night and it didn't seem to make a difference. Hopefully it isn't the disk model that's the problem.

I find the solution! Find C:\Users\YourUser\AppData\Local\Starfield, and delete everything in the folder. Try launch the game. It works for me,and hopes it can help you.

That folder doesn't exist for me. Probably because the game has never actually launched.

The error below makes me think that you you may want to try updating your chipset drivers. Illegal instruction sounds like either a RAM issue or a CPU issue so I would start there.

ERROR_CODE: (NTSTATUS) 0xc000001d - {EXCEPTION} Illegal Instruction An attempt was made to execute an illegal instruction.

I'm assuming chipset drivers are updated, but it's certainly worth a shot. The error could also indicate a missing file, so my other theory is there is some sort of Windows Update / Service Pack that we are missing, and Win11 doesn't seem to be looking for it.
