Is there a way to lock FPS at 45 on PC?
Using the steam deck I usually lock my refresh rate and FPS at 45 for a pretty smooth experience but have never really needed to do that for my PC. Starfield is pretty demanding though and I cant maintain a steady 60 so I'm wondering if there's a way to lock the game to 45? V-Sync toggle seems to be the only option in game so I'm not sure...

You realize the steam deck is just a PC? You’ll have to use Nvidia control panel, rivatuner statistics server, etc.

I'm aware but I'm not exactly running the same operating system. Only difference between any console and a PC is the operating system tbh.

I only saw an option for 50fps in the Nvidia control system so I'm not sure. I'll look around for Riva Tuner

The Nvidia control panel lets you type in the frame rate cap. It’s just one of the options under the game specific settings. Keep looking.

- Open Nvidia Control Panel
- Select Manage 3D Settings
- Select the "Program Settings" tab instead of the Global tab
- Find the Starfield .exe in the drop down list or add it
- Scroll through the settings list and look for "Max Frame Rate"
- Select the drop-down menu and select "On"
- Now you can slide the slider to 45
- Apply

ya might wanna add that the control center might appears to be frozen if you need to add it (incase starfield is not in the list.) just wait, a window will sooner or later appear, listing your latest apps which was active.

This is true. I forgot that it could lag on some systems, definitely.
(I was lucky enough to replace my computer last year and haven't had this issue in a while so I didn't even think to add that part, oops.)

my games are all mostly on a HDD ... so yea ... it takes my PC about 10~30 seconds to look stuff up when i press that button XXXXDD.
starfield is the first game which i putted on my SSD. cause peoples reported that game stability is not guaranteed on HDD. i mean i have a seagate firecuda HDD, one of the fastesd HDD`s you can get nowadays, even baldurs gate 3 runs without problem on this HDD but ... starfield is the first game which says "required ssd" so, i didnt wanted to risk it. tho, i am tempted to try XD.

Just press the ... button on the Steam Deck and set the max refresh rate on the panel that opens. Its built into SteamOS. Also the Deck uses AMD, not Nvidia, so all the people telling you Nvidia stuff will not work.

Why would you lock it at 45 when 45 is not a multiple of any refresh rate? If you cannot maintain 60 on 60 Hz it will drop to 30. If you cannot maintain 30 it will drop to 15. And so on. This is with standard vsync on. There are other types of vsync now but that is the general idea. So if you lock to 45 in the game but your OS is set to 60 you are going to get 30 FPS. The game cannot control this since the card is waiting for the blanking signal to refresh the screen.

The only way you will get 45 is if you turn vsync off. But then if you do that why limit it at all? Turn off vsync and set the max to 60. It will render as fast as it can with those settings but you will get screen tearing. It won't be obvious until you get objects in the scene that have a lot of verticality.
