Is the robot supposed to say my name?

I read he could say your name and your ship name but he just calls me captain

Depends on the name, there is a set list of names he can say. It's not text too speech so that he could say any name. But should be a rather large list of names he is able to say.

I named by character Butt. too bad he can't say that

I tried twice used a name off the Codsworth list and it worked, the one that wasn't on the list did not.

Named my character Xavier and he could say that just fine. I think the Codsworth list is more or less accurate.

The robot said my name perfectly and I was shocked to hear it. Didnt expect that.

wonder if i can make the robot call me somethign similar, my ingame name is Ashar, and Asher is on the lsit of the names it can speak, it sounds the same, but spelt different, so he wont say it. If i could mod the game to associate my name with a name on the list.
