I suppose an alternative would be to turn the difficulty way down, but I can understand why many people wouldn't want to do that.
Given that there a a lot of games out there that do space combat in various ways (SW Squadrons, Battlefleet Gothic, Homeworld, FTL etc) and all of them do it better than Starfield seems to it's not a great look. Then again all manner of games do the ground based combat a lot better too...
