how to get Japanese audio with English subtitles?
it shows the game supports Japanese audio

I thought it'd be an option in the menu, but couldn't find anything (do you only see it accessible AFTER you start your game?)

just wondering if anyone knows how to access it and if you can get Japanese audio with English subtitles

EDIT: So, I was able to get the Japanese audio by simply changing it to Japanese in the properties for the game (downloaded like 6GB of data), but you can only get Japanese menus with it that way. I noticed under audio it showed a new 'voice' submenu that allowed me to choose between English and Japanese, but the moment I swap back to English in the properties (thinking it'd keep the JP audio), it removes the submenu and I'm back to square one...

I renamed the copied files:
Starfield - Voices_ja_Patch on Starfield - VoicesPatch
Starfield - Voices_ja01 on Starfield - Voices01
Starfield - Voices_ja02 on Starfield - Voices02
I deleted Starfield - VoicesPatch,Starfield - Voices02,Starfield - Voices01 and inserted these changed files. It's possible that you just need to replace the files. It worked for me.

probably when there will be game updates, you probably have to replace the files again - still bad, but the option exists.

I'm looking for a way too. It's idiotic that such a basic function doesn't exist...

Gonna try an old trick and see if it works with this game. I doubt it, but worth a shot. I'll post results in a few minutes, whether it works or doesn't.

EDIT: Yeah, kinda figured it wouldn't work. It's tied to the actual language option you choose, which is dumb as hell. Even if you backup the files for the JP audio and stuff, the submenu STILL won't pop up unless you select the language from properties and change the menus to Japanese WITH the audio (even though they still let you choose English audio for whatever reason, yet it doesn't work the opposite way...)

Yeah, I was just about to delete the EN voice files to see if the JP voice files would just force itself as the primary or something, lol. I guess renaming them as the EN files themselves works, but holy **** this is some spaghetti code ****, man.

Multi-billion dollar company btw

just put it in the menu next time, Todd, ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥

Rename JP files to ENG and it works. I have JP voices and native subtitles.

Okay, just tried using your method and it was stupid enough to work, lol. Feels like something I'd have to do to trick a game from 2007, but at least it's functioning. I'll just need to remember to repeat the process for every patch and whatnot. Thanks for the help.

Gave you an award and gonna highlight that as the answer in case anyone else is wondering how to get the audio working as well.

played it for about 4 hours, no problems so far

also, it's clear a lot of the guys in the forum are just trolling, lol

only bug I've encountered so far is just a floating tree, but that wasn't game breaking or anything

that might change in the future, but for now...

so far, so good

looking forward to playing more later

I have 5 hours. It crashed to the desktop once. One mission got stuck, but I loaded the save and did it again and it works.

As for the Japanese voices, it can be seen from the facial expressions that the character no longer speaks, and the voice flies. But that doesn't bother me.

Yeah, seems like the voices were fine early on in the game (like in the beginning), but after a while, the audio keeps going and their mouths just stop moving. Just made it to New Atlantis and everything feels like a cheaply dubbed Kung Fu movie from the 70's, lol.

It doesn't look good since the game supports the language, or it's a matter of replacing files. The game thinks it's English.

It doesn't bother me, I read the subtitles and skip the dialogue so it's not that conspicuous.

imagine being this entitled about an option that only a microscopic portion of the playerbase will even THINK about lol. The devs aren't gonna do extra work just so you and like three others can play with foreign dubbing in a language you don't even speak

imagine being this much of a smoothbrain that you think a player should have to go out of their way to create a workaround for audio which is specifically stated to be supported on the store page for the game

if the game has a checkmark for Japanese audio, you know how you access that audio?

now, I know this might surprise you, so make sure you're sitting down for this shocking revelation...

it's found in the menu as an option

apparently being "entitled" these days means you expect a company to present options (accessibility or otherwise) in a standard format that literally every other game under the sun does

what's next, bro?

you gonna justify why we needed to create a .ini workaround for stopping the audio/video freeze when pushing alt+tab?

we must be entitled to give them our hard earned money and expect the product to work as intended

enjoy your clown award, brainrot

EDIT: oh and for the record, stop assuming people don't speak more than one language just because you've restricted yourself to a life of complacency and are more than comfortable with your room temperature IQ

I've been playing Japanese games since PS1 days (which, judging from your attitude, is probably before you were even born anyway), so you can sit your ass down, lol
