[FIXED] Failed to create save game

Hello guys.
I have this "Failed to create save game" and have been looking around and found many people said to uninstall OneDrive.

It seem to not work at first but there's a catch.

I don't have OneDrive for a long time, had it uninstalled before Starfield.
But I found out that OneDrive made changes to my user folders and never changed it back.

I tried changing it back through setting and Documents property to no avail as I got access denied. This is my personal PC and I'm the admin on it.

My solution that I got working was to change the registry where Documents (and Pictures and Videos as well if you want) are stored via Registry Editor

Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Shell Folders

Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User Shell Folders

In these 2 places if you see anything that said OneDrive change it back to default

From :
C:\Users\YourUsername\OneDrive\Documents
C:\Users\YourUsername\OneDrive\Pictures
C:\Users\YourUsername\OneDrive\Pictures\Camera Roll
C:\Users\YourUsername\OneDrive\Pictures\Screenshots
C:\Users\YourUsername\OneDrive\Videos
C:\Users\YourUsername\OneDrive\Music

To :
C:\Users\YourUsername\Documents
C:\Users\YourUsername\Pictures
C:\Users\YourUsername\Pictures\Camera Roll
C:\Users\YourUsername\Pictures\Screenshots
C:\Users\YourUsername\Videos
C:\Users\YourUsername\Music

Then copy over the files manually from where the OneDrive moved it back to the default location.

Not sure if restart is needed but just in case I did restart anyway. Now I can save game in Starfield

I didn't copy the files either. I changed the name and restarted the PC.
You can now save.

Hello,

The thing I found to work for me was disabling the "Controlled Folder access" in windows security. This feature has created other problems for me with different games and programs.

This method doesn't work for me. Probably because the default save point on my het-work for images happens to me on my LAN Media server. So it's similar to OneDrive, but it's my personal Net-work storage unit.

Another method is go to MS Defender's protection history and allow folder access to the game (defender blocks the folder access of apps when controlled folder access is ON)

This screwed up my PC for some reason, all desktop apps and games disappeared but still in the program files.

Yeah this failed after days of being able to play and save just fine. None of the options are working, and It's quietly been failing to save for over 4 hours of pretty busy play. If I have to restart the game to save, I'm refunding this garbage.

You should really check your setup - the game isn't doing such a thing.

If you have any cloud services (Steam!) active, disable them.

Seriously people, when you have trouble with savegames check what your OS is doing / check your storage left / disable any and all third party apps for said game which might interfere with files (anti-virus scanners / microsoft defender / cloud services like Steam cloud & OneDrive).

For me, just simply right click "my Documents" then click "restore to default" under location.
