Yeah that's what I ended up doing.
Can i rebind to esdf for movement?
if not: there will be a low chance i buy this game
I gave up and was using a gamepad, because like a few other games (like Quake remaster, from Bethesda, wink wink), no matter, if the region is FR, the bindings would be F/cked up, no matter the input keyboard language.
No, that's not something I'd recommend. Installing multiple keyboards in Windows 10 and later creates a lot of problems. Besides, it's confusing as hell when reading the key labels in the game.
Theoretically. The problem is that there are several pages of bindings, and when you modify the binding of one control, like forward (W to E in your case), some others are automatically modified too, but not all of them. So you have to guess which you have to adapt. The keyboard is so busy that it's very complex to modify even 2 keys that remain physically at the same place. They did that very badly.
You can try and get a refund if that doesn't work for you, but you can't get a refund if you play more than 2 hours (or if you wait for more than 2 weeks, I think).

How in 2023, a triple A game can't handle simple things like this out of the box ? It can simply ruin onboarding...
I just set up US keyboard which I'll launch just for Starfield but it's annoying, got to get used to figure out what they mean when they indicate a key for a certain action, it's not what's on my keyboard but where it's on a US keyboard.. like, took me ages to figure how to flip a piece in the ship builder, or use powers, or....
Usually if a company is to lazy to bother setting up different keyboards I'll refund.. problem is, I actually like Starfield... kinda getting used to US layout...
I know, the easiest solution would be to change one key, so that doesn't happen, right?
I use left alt for the jetpack boost trick. left shift is to get my character to run, left control is to crouch. capslock is slow walk and fast walk, which only leaves tab. So basically, I'm stuck to the keys i'm using now.
