No Joystick/HOTAS Support?
Arrghh! This was SO made for a good flight/space sim setup. Elite Dangerous did this really well; I hope there's some modders out there who can figure out a way to make it work here with a full HOTAS & rudder sim setup. It's fun to blast away in space with a mouse and keyboard, but it would be much more immersive to actually feel like your piloting a starship rather than a computer....

Thanks!

Can you not use a joystick for flying in this game?

I was really sad to shelf my HOTAS so yep. We can only hope for mods.

Have you tired Joystick Gremlin? I think you can bind keyboard/mouse functions to your hotas using that software.

Nope...no options to select a joystick as your control device. You can use an Xbox controller, but not a Joystick/Throttle/Rudder pedals. Made me sad, although I'm sure someone will figure out a work around.

Oh! I hadn't really thought about that. I'll do a search and see if that could be a workaround.

Thanks!!

So the thing is... you don't really fly in this game. There's some light space stuff, but this is not a space sim. Not even close. Your ship is more like a house/base that just magically teleports to various planet surfaces by way of clicking menus.

I sorta get that, but I really hate looking for the 'G' key on my keyboard after getting a lock to fire a missile rather than punching the thumb button on my joystick. Or being able to break down their shields with laser fire before opening up with ballistic weapons. And the whole 'W' to increase throttle and 'S' to decrease it feels weird to me when I'm used to jamming the throttle up or down as needed, and hitting the boosters with a quick punch of a button on the throttle....

You could try rebinding rocket key to your side mouse buttons maybe? I can't play the game yet but I think that's what I would do. Are you able to do that?

That may work, since the ground and space have separate bind areas in the controls section. I'll see if there's something in there I can duct tape together until someone comes up with a Joystick/Hotas script; I'm running a G502, so there should be buttons to spare in order to lock up different targets and select the weapons I want to use...

Has anyone else had success with that? I'm out of the game and off to bed...

Thanks! Still can't believe I accidentally sold all the stuff I got out of that base and accidentally bought it all back and blew the credits I worked for, lol! Oh well, I'm off tomorrow and it should easy to go back to the last autosave and do it again

No HOTAS/HOSAS support. Biggest flaw of entire game!! Flying is an area near planet where you do space combat. No navigating by flying to/around planets or systems. Instead you pull up a map an choose surface location or system/planet then a cut scene ensues...... Bad, BAD, BAD. 25 years in the making & this is what they envisioned? REALLY??

Elite Dangerous, Star Citizen, & even No Man's Sky have very little to fear from this game. Boarding disabled ships is brilliant, but not flying through space on your own breaks the whole experience, then to top it off no joystick support.

This will not be the forever game they say they envisioned, because of this DUMB, DUMB, D-U-M-B decision. Could have been a landmark game & whoever decided on this should be flogged, water boarded, then fired.

I mapped all the binds to my x56 Rhino, using the logi's mapping software with mouse and kb inputs, it sort of works,

however the downfall is no auto centreing of the mouse pitch.yaw. I cannot use gremlin/vjoy software as it clashes with other flight controls in Star Citizen. I do have rewasd but it doesn't support hotas yet.

Just a simple mod to have a button recenter the mouse would make it almost passable as hotas flight.

So I used the embedded Steam Controller remapping to configure my Virpils. Works really really well. Auto centre is fully functional as it's mapping to controller not mouse. Only problem is I have HOTAS not HOSAS, and I cant figure out how to map the throttle due to in-game mechanics. Overall, this has really helped drive immersion for me!
