High pitch sound in the scanner.
Played starfield for a few hours and you guys tell me if the sound of the scanner makes you nauseous. Its so high pitch like a dog whistle. I turned it of now but that just means I miss a lot of other sounds eswell. Let me know what you guys think.

Having a similar issue, causes me a little physical pain, trying to figure out what to do about it.

Same here. I agree with the physical pain.

Ok friends, I have a solution until this gets fixed officially. (To be honest I guess this will not be addressed by Bethesda some time soon.)

First of all what is this sound? -> It is a super high frequenzy sound, above 14-16khz. I hear these sounds quite often while watching tv or if I pressure my grafics card and get "coil whine".
(Funny sidenote: My partner can not hear it. Even If i turn up the sound volume to the max. So it might be, that this issue is not hearable by the broad audience... and thus not likely to get changed by Bethesda.)

There is an open source Equalizer programm called "Equalizer APO 1.3" ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0EtgwIajVqs&t=70s for a video von LTT )

--> How To:

1: Download "Equalizer APO 1.3" (e.g. the link provided under the LTT video)
2: Install it for your audio output device (for me it was simply speaker)
3: Restart
4: open the "C:\Program Files\EqualizerAPO\Editor.exe"
(5:) Test if it works by setting the "Preamplification" to +20db, play a youtube video and toggel it on and off. The sound should drop noticably.
(6:) Troubleshoot if 5. is not working. -> Google it... for me installing the troubleshoot option for my speakers did the trick.
7: Set the 16khz Point on the Graphic Equalizer to -40db
8: Test if you still hear the scanner high pitch sound
9: Adjust the EQ more to your liking. (For me just 16khz to -40db was enough)

That was really helpful, thank you! I can confirm with -12 db on 16 kHz in the SteelSeries GG Sonar equalizer I don't have any issue with the scanner anymore.

was just talking to my friend about this last night. Why would you put such an unpleasant sound in a game... especially on something you toggle on and off so frequently

This, it's pretty bad.

Thank you, this worked for me, and was pretty easy to do.

Equalizer APO 1.3 works for both the scanner and the missions screen. Thanks for that.

You are welcome :-)

You, my friend, are an ear-saver!
Thanks a million for informing us about such an excellent program!

I'm watching the rad brad's playthorugh right now and I noticed that noise as well. my ears literally feel a sting whenever I hear it, I'm glad that I'm not the only one experiencing this. I initially thought I was just being overly sensitive when radbrad didnt make any comments on the noise. Thank you so much for providing a fix!! I hope this will either be fixed permanently by mods or by bethesda themselves soon

Agreed, that scanner sound exactly when scanning a new item is painful 😢
Thomas Sep 2, 2023 @ 3:35am
Yes, I hear it too. Fortunately I seem to have aged old enough that I don't hear it as bad as I used to growing up. But yes, I can still hear it to a degree when using some of the scanners and equipment in the game, I just can't hear it's peak like I would have 10 years ago. Thank you to logis for the solution. I wish I had that 10 years ago.
Eadgar Sep 2, 2023 @ 3:38am
My solution so far has been to switch to use my ♥♥♥♥♥♥ monitor speakers which don't seem to be able to make that sound frequency. Will try headphones with an equalizer at some point too.
