Building Shaders? And anyone else having issues with black level?
When I first started up the game I got a screen where it read something like "building shaders" or something and it counted up from 0 to 7000 something. I only got to about 350:ish and it seemed quite slow before I alt tabbed out to check something on my computer and I alt tabbed back in a few seconds later and it was apparently "done".
I am just a little worried if it canceled the process somehow since it seemed it would take much longer to reach the 7000. How quickly did it go for everyone else and is it possible to "recheck" the shaders so they built correctly? Not sure what it actually is.

Also on another note do anyone else experience that there is something "washed out" in the graphics, like the black level is off? I don't get really dark areas etc. I could modify my monitor of course but I usually don't have this problem so wondering if it is because of some option etc or if anyone else have experienced it.

Shaders build to 4000* and then disappear in my case and about the environment. It looks like the engine code of "exposure" rating is low. Like in Skyrim ENB you can make exposure lvl (tonality of light) to be slow or fast when tweaking it.

Set your blacks to limited instead of full in nvidia control panel, this will fix it, designed for limited blacks.

Building shaders means it has to build the shaders used by your video card. I recently updated my AMD Adrenaline software for the new update and after it installed and I rebooted, Starfield had to build the shaders again.

The colors are meant to be a bit washed out because it's supposed to have a 60s/70s sci-fi/NASApunk vibe. But you can use reshade or nVidia controls to adjust it.

Digital Foundry said bad HDR and SDR Black Levels are baked into the art design. You literally have to go into your Physical Display Controls to fix it. They need proper HDR controls.

Yes I find the black levels to look washed out and bright. I'm using a 4K OLED screen where space scenes should be really fantastic looking with the really solid blacks

I got it a bit better in my 4k Oled (LG) by going into the picture setting on the TV and switching from Black Level "High" to "Low" instead.

I’m using an LG OLED gaming monitor so I don’t think it has that sort of setting. I’d hate to mess it up for other uses too by trying to change that globally. Its black level is of course zero technically. Like the night sky in Microsoft Flight Simulator looks unbelievable. I was sorta expecting the same here.

Refunded. Too bad, I thought this would be pretty good otherwise. But it’s like looking through fog all the time.
