60 fps cap
In fallout 76 you can upcap the fps and the game works fine, you have to do it through the ini files of course. Has anyone found a way to do this in Starfield or are we just doomed till modders can fix it.

Nvm I thought the game was capped but it is not, my bad.

I watched a video where someone was playing at 115 fps. What cap are YOU talking about?
The author of this thread has indicated that this post answers the original topic.

There is no cap? I'm getting way more than 60fps.

There is no cap. I'm at around 100-110fps. Try turning Vsync Off. I even turned off FSR 2 and my fps went up. Which is strange.

damn I'm retarded lol. I'm drunk af and figured the game was just fps capped, figured I'd get more than 60 with a 3080 lol.

3090 @ 720p all on low, fps @ 60. Same fps as 4k on high. There is a cap going on somehow. In-game only.. Menu Screens hit 144fps.

fall out 4 did not work fine uncapped. once you got past I think 72, the engine would slowly break the higher fps you got. youd run super fast in dungeons. All bethesda games up to fall out 76 (aside from morrowind) break after 60 or 72 fps. Their physics use to be tied to frame rate. They fixed this during fall out 76 cuz people cheated, uncapping their fps and getting like 200 fps and just pretty much using a TOS friendly speed hack lmao.
This game follows the trend of no engine issues with the frames being high.

Interesting to see it isn't capped at 60 fps for PC, like was mentioned in the review I read today (Norwegian, mentioned in italics towards the end of the review):

https://www.nrk.no/anmeldelser/anmeldelse_-_starfield_-1.16542632

I played it a few hours today with that in mind, and had about 50-60 fps the entire time, thinking it wouldn't go higher.

It was very smooth and pretty, though, but I let GeForce Experience set the graphics settings for me after first starting and quitting the game once, and it put shadows on medium and most other things on high or ultra. 1440p (specs in profile). V-synch off in game, and Fast in Nvidia control panel since I'm using G-Sync. Isn't that the 'standard'?

So did they mean it's not meant for higher than 60 fps or something? And it says it's capped at 30 fps(!) for consoles.

Happy with 60 fps, though, but interesting that the 'claim' of capped frames seems to be untrue, and interesting coincidence that then game kept at around 60 fps for me throughout.

I only reached the base with the pirates in the first session, though, so haven't been to any major cities yet.

Just wanted to confirm that it isn't capped, as when I played again yesterday I paid more attention to the fps counter (Steam overlay), and it often ran at 72 fps inside the ship and other places. I've set 72 as max in Nvidia control panel.

I might send a word to that reviewer!
