Game crashes at the end of the tutorial.

No matter what I do as soon as i touch the artifact in the beginning the game crashes. I've tried several times. Anyone else have this issue?

I was having the same problem with crashing at start up, crashing during prologue and crashing after character creation. I check windows update and gpu drivers before starting the game and everything was up to date. However, after crashes multiple times and seeing the forums loaded with similar issues I found a helpful suggestion.
Download DDU(Guru3D.com), uninstall all drivers and reinstall all the drivers.

Please back up before you try and use at your own risk. I followed instructions right off AMD website forums. Hopefully this will help someone.

* Four hours of game play now and running smooth.

+1 - I'm an Ultrawide user, was experiencing CTD's when walking through the first door after finishing character creation. Switching to a 16:9 resolution stopped the crashes. I was able to switch back to 21:9 after zoning.

AMD 7900 XT - FWIW.

That's absurd. It's a AAA game in 2023.

Man, this is exactly the same point it crashed for me. It got me through the next time but crashed on the spaceship tutorial and so I decided to turn it off until it’s fixed. Did you get further/find a fix?

FIXED: I spend 5 hours tryng to get to character creation, but always get a crash.
I tryed almost everything (change resolution, settings, drivers)-nothing seemed to solve the problem.
Finally I was able to run the game with only 2 crashes in 6 hours (not an issue, i have autosave each 5 min.): I enabled the virtual memory in windows (in ALL the drives).
I don't know if this will work for every one.
My specs are:
I9-9900 3.6
16 gb ram
rtx 3070 OC
2 x M2 ssd with nve

My settings are in High with with motion blur off, upscaling off

To put in my 2 cents, none of my temps are close to overheating. They are actually a bit lower than most of the other games I've been playing. Everything (BIOS, motherboard drivers, all other drivers (attached devices), display drivers and etc...) are all up to date. (I even roll them back for testing.) I pretty sure its Starfield itself, since that and Frostpunk are the only two games that are giving me the same problems,

Everything seems to be working correctly (no crashes, FPS is around 85@4k, everything is at Ultra, where applicable, and etc..) until after killing the 3 Pirates just before meeting "The Crimson Fleet Captain." My computer would crash (blue screen) EVERY TIME I tried to enter the next room. I can back track to the beginning and I can walk around in the current room and look into the adjoining room but once I step through the doorway to the next (empty) room, the sound goes out then about 3 sec later, I get the blue screen. I have repeated this at least several dozens times with different display settings, BIOS settings (OC off on all devices), roll back each driver, remove all other attached devices and I even swap to two other gaming monitors. I hope the patch will fix this else its going to be an up hill battle with Steam for a refund. I've clocked a lot of "game time" since Aug 31, just trying to get through the next room!

Looks like GeForce Experience is causing this for some people by attempting to load an overlay right as the artifact animation finishes. Either uninstall it (and load your drivers manually in the future) or turn off the application before launching Starfield.

I can confirm this solved my issue. I redid the start 2x and on the 3rd attempt in windowed mode, it worked. Thank you.
