Would be very surprised it's not really a sim so will be very arcade like in space.. mouse keyboard would probably do the job..

But they have controller support so would think you could map any controller you wanted.

Use joystick Gremlin to bind them as a gamepad. I did see a review that said there's a technical problem when trying to use a hybrid input setup. It sounds like, when you're using a controller it disabled keyboard inputs. Here's hoping between Big Picture and third party apps we can get it working day one, but it's sounding like it could take some time to resolve.

One recent review video I watched said that, on PC, controllers other than mouse and keyboard weren't great. Take that with a grain of salt though, there's still a lot of misinformation floating around.

there is no reason to use sticks in this game, you cant fly anywhere

There is an option that do this, and its description is kinda misleading.

An X-56 Hotas has 13 axes, 5 HATS and 31 programmable buttons over three modes are a bit overkill for this rpg. This is why I use an Xbox controller.
