That sucks. I guess I will just reinstall. It sucks Bethesda are likely going to make us wait until the last minute to preload, my internet isn't that great.
No. It will not work this way. While the xbox is a mini PC and Windows, it's still not a gaming PC. You can't just drop the files into steam and verify them this way. None of the CRC & file size checks will match the steam version, and it would re download every single file.
When they compile a game for each platform, the compiler compiles all the code into exes dlls, etc and also packs the data files for the game. This will cause file sizes and compression CRCs to be different on each platform.
If it's a gamepass game on windows, then it MIGHT be possible, but not likely as Windows Store apps are often put in places you don't have permissions to go. Also, they are often encrypted. In the end, steam would probably re download the whole game.
This is part of why grabbing games on game pass can lead to them being unmoddable with the normal mods.
Most games on the Xbox App are encypted/protected. This prevents moving files or any type of editing.
That's interesting to know, Thanks for the info. I guess it makes sense that they don't run with the script extender as the Xbox App will only run games directly from the main exe.
Cheers!
