No DLSS Support Could Be Dealbreaker
I have a pretty solid rig that's less than a year old but I'm acutely aware of optimization issues with modern PC games.

Now I read an article saying AMD has all but admitted to FSR exclusivity rights with Starfield and there's no DLSS support in the game.

Without DLSS, Nvidia users can expect high CPU temps and bottle-necking, expect constant frame dumping, and expect to downgrade your graphics settings unless you're running higher end gear.

This is really disappointing.

DLSS sucks.
Knight Aug 28, 2023 @ 6:48pm
No DLSS. AMD confirmed that FSR will support nvidia drives.

Then skip it, NEXT!

DLSS is bad
Ceciliantas Aug 28, 2023 @ 6:51pm
I have a i9 13900KS and a RTX 4090, with 64gb DDR5 6000MHZ Kingston, on a Samsung Pro 990 2TB M.2, 14 super high end fans, and a 1260mm LC cooling both CPU and GPU.

I think ill be fine without DLSS.

So your saying that without DLSS Nvidia cards are rubbish?
Mods Exist dude.
BaneBlackGuard Aug 28, 2023 @ 7:00pm
game uses FSR and it works on Nvidia cards, you're fine. breath. And AMD actually said the game is NOT required to use FSR, Bethesda can develop for DLSS if they want and have AMDs support to do that. Whether the game uses only FSR is up to Bethesda.

Just chatted to someone who is on PC, news on performance.

PC Settings Menu: https://files.catbox.moe/lxyhyt.jpeg

Leaker reports they are running 3800x/2080ti @ 1440p on the above high settings.

He gets 45-60 fps most of the time, 60-70 fps in dungeons and space.

He says:

Performance

performance is smooth tho imo, haven't touched settigns too much. no stutters as well.

game is pretty good, goty nominee for sure

also the tile thing is correct but it's not a big deal, people blowing it out of proportion

btw people are freaking out about the render slider but it's like that because of dynamic res. image quality is great

also FSR3 isn't in the game, and the image quality with on looks good
General Thoughts on Game

Also note that this leaker is the only one I have encountered that had access to the game since review codes went out, so he probably has 30-40+ hours in the game. He says he hasnt played oblivion/morrowind, but the game is deeper than fallout 4/skyrim in rpg mechanics, and is easily a 9.5 or a 10. So good news for the starfield hypers out there.

nah i'd be surprised if it's not in the high 80s or 90s. bethesda cooked with this one

space part is great, but again i think expectations were though the roof. if you liked what you saw in the direct and enjoyed past bethesda games idk why you'd be worried.

subreddit has been overhyping on some areas. the majority will be very happy imo, it's a great game. the sheer number of options and freedom to create your own path is fantastic

Welp, I guess then I am not hitting 60 fps 1440p with my 12100f/6700XT?

Also gonna upload extensive combat footage tomorrow
TL;DR FSR is fine that's what the game was designed around because you know consoles
fwarlinger Aug 28, 2023 @ 7:09pm
Consoles use cheap AMD junk chips.

DLSS or not, FSR works on Nvidia cards aswell unless you have 20XX or 30XX series, these have small issues with the game... Also mind that its Bethesda we are talking about and if it shows up that FSR is a problem and that we do need DLSS (which would mean we most likely do not need that cuz its still the same engine FO76 is running on) then I bet that fans would push out dear kind Todd to make DLSS support... The main issue I see is Raytracing support which I kinda want from every new game cuz its a must... Precise and correct lignting and shadows, especially in space is what the game needs more than DLSS...

Also, Bethesda is designing games for PC and porting them to consoles, never the other way around like Ubisoft or EA whom do consoles first and then port to PC...

Sooo lets say this, AMD has a contract with Bethesda for Starfield having only AMD FSR support and all the AMD stuff in hopes to increase their sales... Which means Bethesda took the deal for extra cash but the backlash from fans whom expected good graphics is gonna be more than what AMD could ever offer... That being said, AMD wont increase sales, Bethesda will suffer from sales and reviews and the deal will be dropped so Bethesda could implement RTX support to make fans happy... Literally 70% gaming rigs have Nvidia card cuz AMD just cant keep up with raytracing which is the major selling point for games and is the reasong why Cyberpunk is the best looking game so far thanks to RT Overdrive and DLAA...

I guess most people here are too young to remember but similar issue like this was with Nvidia PhysX and Nvidia HairWorks cuz for example Mafia had Nvidia PhysX and car damage detail and bits of glass lying on the car and ground when smashed was much much better than the rockstar console optimized scripted damage model in GTA III, GTA VC and GTA SA... Then they did it well in GTA IV but dropped it for GTA V and they went back to prescripted damage model...

Soooo that being said, at this stage its kinda too late but to everyone whom keeps dissing AMD, just dont... Cuz if you own RTX GPU you still gonna get better framerates than any AMD user cuz AMD cant keep up, have lower tier HW that even RTX 4060 can beat with ease...
tfa Aug 28, 2023 @ 7:39pm
DLSS raises framerate. As framerate goes up so does cpu usage.
Aug 28, 2023 @ 7:44pm
DLSS and FSR need to die so developers will do actuall optimization, as opposed to upscale lower resolution.
NathanD7 Aug 28, 2023 @ 7:49pm
You got a good rig but you need dlss? lmao.

Agree completely, but as it stands now, for those of us with Nvidia cards, DLSS is a more optimized experience than without. I haven't seen enough evidence to suggest FSR works well with Nvidia either.

I know this, which is why we're able to lock our frame-rate in the Nvidia Control Panel to whatever our CPU can safely handle.

I don't believe I'll need DLSS for Starfield since I'll most likely run 1080p.
