Yeah the bugs absolutely were annoying but so many people exploring a new world TOGETHER, randomly stumbling onto another guy exploring was absolutely an amazing experience.
The problem was there were no human vendors, it felt barren, and a lot of other very boring things. It wasn't that it wasn't innovative, it was they didn't even deliver an experience that you'd get in FO3 for example. They didn't run out of idea, the game had a lot of new and exciting ideas even at launch... the problem was it was just absolutely terrible and barren.
Then after a few weeks griefing and exploiting got INSANELY bad.
I'll agree a new IP is amazing, I really wanted a space themed exploration game so I'm happy for that.
