A SSD is Solid State Drive, a non volatile flash memory storage drive.
NVME stands for Non Volatile Memory Express, a PCIE standard for SSDs, often using a m.2 slot, but can also be a PCIE slot.
Both work just fine, you probably just had an issue with the initial install of diablo 4.
I have a dedicated 2TB NVME for games and a 500gb NVME for the OS.
Payday 2 also can sometimes trigger it as well as warframe. It isn't perfectly consistent though.
This is all using the steam move install folder function.
i dunno about the other two
99% of games can be moved without issue
