How many threads will the game utilize? i7-6800K vs i7-4780K
Comparing the min required i7-6800K vs what i have now which is a i7-4790K, am curious how many threads will the game use? The i7-6800K wins in every category except in single thread performance.

Considering the 6800k is a 6 core 12 thread cpu, as is the 2600. 3600, and 10600 I think the best bet is it is designed for 6 core systems.

I highly doubt you'll see a computer game ever use more than two threads, maybe three tops.

This is what I was going to post, even the most advanced game today does not utilize even a small percentage of the hardware available.

In other words the hardware tech is far above the software tech atm.

Battlefield 2042 makes use of 8 cores.

neither of these two will do well because they are dated AF.

Right, and if the game only uses 1 or 2 cores is it really that big of a difference? The max turbo speed of the recommended Intel i5-10600K is 4.8 and 4.4 for the i7-4790K. I am more concerned with my GPU which is a 1070 running at 2K. For sure going to upgrade that

i believe this game will run like Fallout 76 because its the same engine, and that game doesn't utilize CPU or GPU very well. so try not to change any hardware until you test the game, or at least until the hardware reviewers test it.

Wait until the game comes out, then you can find out for real instead of guessing ahead of time.

4790k is a beast....won't deny it (used it until my 10900k). But you finally get significant gains by upping to 10k+ CPUs...you really should. You will get "something beautiful" for a GPU upgrade, but you're likely to bottleneck with the 4790k.

Except most modern game engines have been multi-threaded for years. Even Fallout 4 on the Creation Engine scaled across multiple cores back in 2015, and did so quite well.

"Despite the fact that we’re dealing with an open-world title, Fallout 4 is friendly to older CPUs and requires a high-end GPU in order to shine. Bethesda did an incredible work overhauling Creation’s multi-threading capabilities and as a result of that, the game scales on more than four CPU cores. With Hyper Threading enabled, we witnessed even greater scaling to twelve threads, so kudos to the team for improving the most annoying performance issue of Skyrim."
