Is my 850 evo still good enough for the ssd requirements?
I haven't upgraded in awhile but i still primarily use my slave HDD for games and my OS is on an 850 evo (500gb). Now theres NVMe's (?) m.2 (?) ssd's so i guess i have an old school ssd. So basically my question is am i still good for games that requires ssd's?

I would consider getting a decent 2.5" drive (as a straight replacement) like a Samsung 870 Evo or Crucial MX 500 or MX 300, at least 1tb capacity and reinstalling your OS onto the new drive.

However, if you can free up enough space on the existing SSD (with a buffer of maybe 40gb empty) and can't or don't want to buy a new SSD it will work perfectly fine on the 850. It won't be as fast as the new SSDs but in a game it's not likely something you'd actually really notice as most situations the difference would be a few seconds in loading times.

Yea it's fine but it is old I would recommend buying at least a 1TB soon there like $30-$50.

Thanks guys, appreciate the input. Exactly what i was looking for. yeaaa, man im like 5 years removed from pc hardware. I'm admittedly not very knowledgeable on the newest hardware from the last 3-5 years.

To be fair, 150 TBW is still a considerable amount. After maybe 2.5 years on my NVME drive, primary and only drive I currently have installed, is at approximately ~14 TBW. Out of a 1200 TBW endurance. So depending on usage, your drive may have considerable life left. Although it is not a lot of storage to play around with, so upgrading is certainly not a bad idea and you do get a lot more endurance out of larger drives.

That's not bad. I don't know how long you have had that drive, but you're not even at half life as advertised. So you're technically still pretty well off for another amount of years you've been using it. If you're okay with your storage capacity, no need to do any upgrades at the moment unless you want to.

BTW, the drive health 'Good' is, well good. I've never seen Samsung Magician say anything else when I've ever checked. Don't think there is anything above that.

You're doing exceptionally well for 7 years. At that rate, your drive could technically live longer than you! lol

What the funny thing is just because SSD's advertise a limited write life, some people are nervous about using them because they think they won't last as long as a mechanical drive.

did a lil digging and the 850 500gb's life expectancy is 5 years or 150 TBW although i thought it was 75-120. so no worries.

Thanks alot for the discussion guys! :)
