Please DO NOT Switch to 7900 XTX
Guys, I thought I should share this as Many of you guys might be switching from NVIDIA to AMD GPUs just for this. If you are stupid like me. I have been using NVIDIA GPUs forever, saw AMD sponsoring Starfield so I went and bought 7900 XTX - The biggest mistake of my life.

Now I understand these things happen but AMD sucks, I had so many issues
- Boot times were insane, 2 minutes to load into Windows (this is 100% AMD's fault and there are many posts on the internet about it)
- Multi-monitor sometimes won't work, It will crash drivers until I reboot (again is AMD fault for not fixing these issues)
- Driver crashes over and over again (I don't care if I had DDR5 RAM as someone on AMD Forums suggested, NVIDIA works so should AMD)
- WIFI Interception, A horrible Coil Whine also intercepted the WIFI Signal, I Went on Diel up speed :( This could very well be faulty hardware so I don't think this is AMD's fault but I hated every min of it

I understand, my setup might have been too advanced for AMD GPU
- Intel i9 13900
- 64GB DDR5 (6000)
- MSI MAG Z790 Tomahawk

Things I have tried
- Fresh Install windows twice
- Cleared CMOS and reset BIOS (bios are up to date on Motherboard and the GPU both)
- Turned off any Boot settings in BIOS which could cause it
- Tried different display ports
- Tried different cables
- Check PCIe for dust or anything, Checked the card fitting to the socket
- Checked for the power Interruptions (there are none)
- Running in standard default settings (No OC)
- Also tried undervolting and overclocking - Nothing makes any difference

So If you are thinking to switch, just keep it in mind if you have a similar setup.

NOTES:
- This post is about 7900XTX, please don't post comments like oh my 6900XT (or another card) works, I don't care, 6900XT works for me too, please don't waste time.

- If you say your 7900XTX Works, Please share your full system specs, I stated that many times, this is related to particular setups such as mine especially If you have AMD CPU, please this post is not for you with all due respect.

Ive never had that much sucess with AMD stuff, im no "hater" but ive always felt that i was missing out when using and AMD card or CPU.

Im sure their products are great but ive not personally ever felt "yay AMD!".

Id advise OP to get some assistance from a friendly AMD discord/forum.

Yeah Tried, Silent from AMD on this issue.

So I sent the card back to my supplier, and they think it is very likely a faulty GPU. It might be faulty and all my rant might be wrong but I am not the only one having that boot issue, Reddit and forums are filled with these posts especially people with Z series motherboards and AMD has not released a statement whatsoever.

AMD fans tell me that oh it is MSI's fault and I should set BIOS in CSM mode and not UEFI secured mode, BUT why I should do that? I Want UEFI-secured mode.

Some tell me it is Intel's fault as I have Intel CPU and not AMD, I am not changing the CPU for this so if 4090 and 4070ti work just fine why 7900XTX doesn't?

Maybe a very stupid question, but is your BIOS up to date?

Doesnt seem like the right place to take a dump on AMD, I prefer Nvidia myself but if your product is faulty, which it appears to be, better take it to AMD, though I get you're probably just trying to protect others from making a bad purchase...

I've never trusted AMD. Sure, it's cheaper than Intel and Nvidia, but that always comes at a cost. Only AMD processor I ever had was an FX 8350 and it sucked complete ♥♥♥♥. Much cheaper than Intel, but the cores were garbage and performed horrendously in CPU intensive games like Fallout 3 and New Vegas (this was a while ago). From that day forth, I just didn't trust AMD anymore. Sure, it's cheaper, but you pay for it in the long run.

No way, I found another FX-8350 brother after all these years.
I had it paired with a R9 270x, which then busted into flames. (wish I was kidding) due to many corrupted drivers, fans not working because of it. And some dust buildup.
Good times..

I love seeing posts like this that are really all about helping others. A heart so big and overflowing with so much compassion. It brings a tear to my eye.
BEEP! Jul 21, 2023 @ 6:10am
This is one reason why I try to avoid the newest gen of hardware & go with last gen I've been hearing so many bad things with Nvidia & AMD newest hardware I'd rather go with last gen than be a beta tester for the first few years with the newest tech at least I know all the quirks are ironed out with last gen stuff.

Oh trust me I tried, If I could a word out of AMD's mouth I would have been happy :) usually, silence is guilt - Just because just one group is impacted does not mean that they can't or shouldn't do anything to fix the issue.

I believe you are being sarcastic, I get that :) But that is why I posted my specs and stated that the issue happens with Z Series so trust me I am trying to help :)
I have spent the last 5 days dealing with these issues in frustration with no solution - Some say AMD need to release a BIOS update for this card and they are not where AMD is dead silent on the matter.

I might be the lucky one but with the new-gen, I never had an issue. My 4090 runs fine, and my 4070ti runs fine on exact same setup even plugged into the same PCI Socket and connected to the same power cables. Someone mentioned 6000 AMD series was great, 7000 sucks and is a test for 8000 - It is just not fair.

If you are really having these problems and didn't just do a google search to find them so you could bash on AMD, then this is not the place to ask for help.

I'm currently using a GIGABYTE Z790 AORUS Elite AX with a 7900xt and seeing none of these difficulties. I was using a 6800xt prior to that and also, no difficulties.

Yes, this doesn't mean you are not, but once again, this is not the place to seek help for these types of issues.

Not asking for help, I asked everywhere, Reddit, AMD forums, etc but there was no solution to my problem.

This is not to "ask for help" post, this is to "warn people" post if they have a similar setup and thinking to upgrade to 7900 XTX as I have seen posts asking if they should upgrade or move to AMD GPUs for starfield

And yes I believe you, XT might be fine, I had XTX. Some were saying it is Intel's fault and some were saying it is MSI's (mobo) fault and some were claiming that it is AMD's fault. I however will blame AMD as it was their product that did not work.

The very first graphics card I ever bought was AMD. This was like 15 years ago. Anyway, it didn't work so, I returned it, got a Nvidia card and kept purchasing Nvidia upgrades ever since.
MajorLeandro Jul 21, 2023 @ 6:44am
Ye, I prefer to be a Nvidia Stupid buyer too. I like to pay about 200 to 400 and more bucks than AMD prizes to take the advantage of RT Fool's gold.
I Have buying a 7900 XTX with Starfield key and the price difference i have buy a 6600 to a second computer with another Starfield key.
Now i understand Steam Fanboys haters against Epic Store not take free games.
