Starfield
Facial Hair
Bethesda has chosen to use their in-house Creation Engine 2 for Starfield, even though its foundational technology dates back over two decades. The essence of Creation Engine 2 originates from the Gamebryo engine used in Morrowind, which Bethesda has employed since the game began development in the late 1990s. While there have been updates and modifications, there are boundaries to what this tech can achieve. The recurring facial hair issue, seen in previous Bethesda games, could be an early warning sign of the engine's limitations.

Not according to this source. Maybe that facepalm you so generously gifted me would look better on you?

The Creation Engine 2 is a brand-new game engine introduced specifically for the launch of Starfield. It is also reportedly being used in the production of The Elder Scrolls 6. Previously, the Creation Engine had been used to make Skyrim and its various iterations, as well as Fallout 4 and Fallout 76.

Can't see myself getting concerned at all over such a "limitation".
I really don't care because facial hair doesn't affect the gameplay and I'm there for the gameplay and story so I'd rather devs spend time on that than on hair.
I will play a female char, so i don't care about facial hair. I hope there will be a CBBE body with bouncin boobs very soon after release, that is much more important than beards.
Now tell us how UE5 sucks because it originates from UE1
Yeah, the facial hair does look a bit off.

But bear in mind most of us are using Windows, even though the foundational technology dates back almost four decades.
It's the same with real engines so car engines. The Ford Focus engine was based on the Ford Escort engine. It's simple you don't have to invent the wheel, if you already have done that before.
This is Bethesda. Their graphics are good and serviceable but nothing top of the line. Game play, story, characters and world building are. That is why we buy Bethesda games. Not b/c they have the latest greatest top notch super fancy graphics. If anyone is truly expecting jaw dropping graphics beating out current high end titles then it seems to me they haven't played many Bethesda games. That is simply not their main selling point.

I totally understand the OPs concern. The hair shown is probably the 30fps console image and isn't nearly as sharp as the pc could render, but Bethesda does have a short history of a little jank in the design tank. The eyeballs are always a bit off, for example. [Half-Life 2 still has better, more natural eye movement than this...]

I'm just grateful that finally they made interior spaces that actually have transparent windows. The Creation engine didn't like to mix indoors and outdoor spaces, so I hope they've addressed that.
I noticed that as well. Kind of looks like it was scribbled on with a sharpie. lol

Hopefuly they improve it before release.
The hair is definitely lackluster. But I am not too surprised by this...I don't think BGS has made a single game where the vanilla character creator was anything worth writing home about lol.
On one hand, sounds like we'll be having to wait until mods can give us better facial hair. On the other, I wouldn't want to get my beard hairs caught in the gaps of my space helmet.

It's weird because the hair on the head looks good, then you see the beards and I'm wondering why it's not similar quality.

I've always thought their characters had this 'strange' Bethesda look to them. I can't pinpoint what it is but I definitely recognize when it is there.
