Because I can't wait
Speed of decrypt absolutely depends on the speed of your drive, CPU, RAM and available resources. Hogwards Legacy, a game of comparable size, decrypted for me in minutes (on a NVMe PCIe 4.0 SSD, 64GB and 5900X) while there were post/threads complaining that it took hours. On mid tier current/last gen hardware it really shouldn't take longer than the download unless you have exceptionally fast internet and the Steam servers are having a really good day or aren't hammered by thousands of users trying to get the same files.
Is unpacking related to your SSD speed, or we will be forced to digest 2 hours of unpacking 125GB if we decide to predownload?
i heard it was only for xbox
Quite possibly. The SATA interface itself certainly is a bottleneck, it taps out at around 600MB/s iirc, while a PCIe 3.0 NVMe will easily reach 3-4GB/s. That's 5+ times more, at that point it's not just a measurable difference.
For Xbox not PC - its common for Xbox to have pre-load as far as +30 days early as its close platform , with PC you lucky to get 72h because of data-mining / working on cracking on pc.
Steam downloads are encrypted with a AES 256-bit key
for people who dont know how strong that is, even if you got a quantum computer, it will still take 200 times longer than the universe have existed to encrypt it.
I bet one of those fancy Iranian quantum computers will do it in an afternoon.
Also, why brute force it when the key is most likely 'It just works!'. ;)
but for real, Xbox do not encrypt their files at all, from what i know only the exe file is botched so it cant get cracked/used.
meaning datamining should be possible there.
