100 ships so far
FPS game mode and Racing, Bounty hunting, delivery cargo hauling, Rescue missions, salvage missions.
Got the base game, can play for free. Or if I want could already get a subscription for bonus stuff to play with and test out as it is made.
You can talk in the chat channel and get feedback from the devs and community while playing. I always like to be a good guy. But people can be bad guys on the game too. The griefers get killed and sent to jail alot.
People will try to steal your ship. Or smash you into the ground with theirs. Most of the people are interested in working together PVE because many of the missions require big ships with multiple turrets and a team to infiltrate enemy bases. The PVE AI will kill you if you try to go in alone many times, until you learn the layouts of the dens.
Also Going to be a single player campaign in a few years or so. Thats why I bought it. Really looking forward to Squadron 42.
But Yeah , I am definitely gonna play alot of Starfield when it gets released on Steam.
Whenever that is.
If the game ever finishes development it has a load of potential - but i dont see it even hitting beta for at least another 5 years and thats being pretty optimistic...
It already has more content than most games.
You have to play for a while to see what I am trying to say to you.
When you do missions from the contract manager the game opens up into a much larger scope than you realize.
For instance when you complete your bounty hunter certification , you get sent a bunch of contracts to collect bounties on. Including NPC and player bounties.
When you deliver packages to random places, it sends you into areas where other missions are available sometimes if your paying attention.
Bad guys can join gangs I think. I dunno I kill the bad guys or do industrial stuff.
The only thing is that if you don't have a good computer it makes it difficult.
Its always in a testing Phase so Items are not permanent Unless they came in your Game package. Aside from some bugs you can report in game It is alot of fun.
I recommend 32 Gigs of RAM at least, with a newer graphics card.
There are hundreds of people if not thousands working on Star Citizen. I have a feeling It is gonna be around for a while.
When you play it, it feels alive.
Flying into and out of the hangars and atmospheres is really adding to the immersion.
I put a ROC mining vehicle in the back of my Cutlass Black and fly low and slow pinging the scanner now and then looking for ore deposits.
When I find one I land nearby and open my cargo ramp. I get out of the pilots seat and walk through to the cargo area and get into the ROC. I turn on all the power and engines and back out down the ramp.
I then turn around and hit the ping scanner on the ROC and go mine the ore I saw while flying around just a second ago.
Aberdeen is really hot , so I wore my high temperature Pembroke armor and helmet so I could live longer than 35 minutes out in the midday sun.
I had to dial in the laser and try not to overheat the deposit to avoid catastrophic failure.
Popped half a dozen rocks and collected them with the extractor arm attachment next to the laser.
Loaded the ROC back into the Cutlass , and flew back to the mining office to sell the Hadanite to The commodities kiosk in the colony bases trading commodities moon office.
Yup , I 'm pretty sure its already a successful game, before even being released.
No wonder everyone and their brother is making a space game nowadays.
When it hits a proper beta release and has at least a few more star systems then i'll jump in but i have no intention of playing a work in progress for the next 5 years waiting for the beta...
And if really want to spend that much money for the game, I would go for other games that have a realistic chance of coming out within the near future than one that might not realistically come out in 10 years even. For example, I would rather spend the money on preordering rogue trader instead since that will definitely come out long before SC.
There are several levels of testing. I believe this is the beginning of the next generation of gaming.
A couple of years ago I was testing and chatting and I mentioned cyborgs would be cool. Next thing I know I was given a mission that sent me to go talk to one in the game. I never saw it since, and I have never seen anyone else who looked at it either. I talked to her. She had a metal leg and a metal arm. I think she was a mining supervisor, from what I remember of the conversation. It made me feel special to have that testing shared.
I mentioned wouldn't it be awesome if you could find an asteroid just big enough to barely land a ship on and do rediculously high jumps in the super low gravity. Next thing I know I was given a destination on my map... I followed it to a miniature planet shaped asteroid in the middle of a massive asteroid belt with seemingly no end to it. I landed on it and drove my ROC around on it , doing super jumps before smashing back down over hills and valleys. It only took a couple minutes to completely drive around the circumference.
I was looking at Starfield because i love Fallout Games and Elder Scrolls games. The reason I don't play Star Citizen all the time is because of server wipes. It does not happen often, but earning ships takes some time if you are not using exploits.
Games today are getting so complicated it is almost impossible for a release to not have issues found by the players. You could hire all the testers you want... The truth is players will always find something. Putting the game into players hands was one of the smartest decisions Star Citizen has made. I bet they save a ton of money having all those free testers.
There is a new gameplay loop where you can fly around and rescue incapacitated players and save their life. I think in the future players might be able to play space doctor in the stations hospitals.
That and the players will be able to choose an alien for a toon in the future.
In the meantime many other developers saw the backing and decided to make space game cash grabs that are not worth playing. There are literally thousands of those in the last few years.
So tell me. Is it better to make a great game that will be played and talked about for decades that breaks barriers and drives innovation.... Or is it better to poop out a crap game that nobody buys or wants to play , calling it "finished content" ?
