Size of planets
First, some facts about the sizes of real-life astronomical objects:

Earth's diameter = 12,756 km

Ceres' (dwarf planet) diameter = 939 km

How would you feel if the sizes of the planets in Starfield were similar to that of real-life planets?

I'm of the opinion that more real estate in a video game can't be bad, but I also understand why planets in Starfield should be smaller because of data storage issues or whatever.

As long as the perception of the sizes feels ok, I fine with it. No way any planet is going to actually be as large and require the same real time to fully explore as the Earth would require.

Yep, I agree!

If you are building on a planetary object that is smaller than like 150km you get curvature issues.
The smaller the worse it gets.
If they put some sort of graphic stretching in it will be fine.
Otherwise the planets should be in the 100s of km to avoid such issues.

I would hazard an informed guess that once we are on the surface of SF planets they will not be round. This based on what was required for No Man's Sky to pull it off, and admirably so I might add. I do not know how Star Citizen does it.

The whole controversy about SF requiring orbit, choose your spot, cut-scene landing, etc. says to me they have not introduced any game engine tech that models planets, and this is still Bethesda's old game engine regardless of the tweaks and what they call it.

Flying into side of planet isnt the best way to do it anyway, far from. They could if they wanted, really, but it sucks.

Flying around in atmosphere with a star ship may suck to if they have something far better and more sim. Really, really really. Tried explaining it a few times already so an extra really. Because No Mans Sky and the rest did it badly because they are bad games. Really. :steamhappy:

No Mans Sky screwed everyone over, so has Star Citizen and the rest. They know they did, everyone knows they did, those are bad games and badly done and everyone knows it.

Everyone knows they threw trash at customers to make a dollar. Star Citizen Online is a bad game and passed customers looking for a good game to Elite Dangerous Online which is also a bad game, and No Mans Sky Online is a bad game and so are the rest. They openly taking turns beating up customers with their bad games.

I dont know why i bother to try explaining sometimes but maybe someone will get it. :)

You admit to repeating yourself, and did so at least 3 times in quote above. Now, who is trying to bully people here, eh? Or just trolling me and others?

No, you can say it isn't personal and then proceed on your tirades of opinion but nobody is buying it. People like and maybe even love the games you seem to hate, AND you probably never even tried playing (prove to us otherwise).

So why spread your personal hate venom? No, not buying it, enough haters-who-are-going-to-hate already out there, go post with them circle-jerk fashion.

Then just F'n give up already, right? You admit to repeating yourself, and did so at least 3 times in quote above. Now, who is trying to bully people here, eh? Or just trolling me and others?

It isnt me spamming the same topic onto this forum. I also not quoting or getting frustrated at anyone, mostly because i am not stupid enough to be passed around between really bad games taking turns taking advantage of customers.

I am trying to be helpful is all and pointing out abusers taking advantage of others.

It may be far worse if that gang of customers abusers is behind the Starfield delay or Starfield gets sabotaged because of them as well.

I look forward to seeing Cyberpunk 2077 and Star Citizen and the rest getting sued or something because they are professional customer abusers. Really. I also look forward to seeing their attempts to regulate or otherwise ruin the industry fail and to the day real business and real customers, as squeezed out as those have been by already total fail industries, come back into relevance.

I know for sure how this is going to work out by the way, because lies only go so far.

Again no personal offence, but there is endless amounts showing they lied many many times to customers and have been making an online customer trap, how does anyone think this is going to work out? Really.

They know how its going to work out. So do i, But the trick is that the industry remains free to be the best it can be, and in a good way, and not run by trolls and customer abusers, even after all their lies and traps and billions of dollars.

Actually you are spamming the same vitriol across threads, and as proven, you repeated yourself and the same hate at least 3 times in your post above. Read your post again, then check out www.rif.org

Oh yes, you are just trying to be helpful, right. As mentioned some like or even love those games you hate, but you likely have never tried to play even when available for free weekends (prove to us otherwise). If so, then you are just being "passed around" (you better look up what that means in English...) but just by another crowd this time.

You certainly are demonstrating critical thinking skills with all that follows...

Read my comment above, now you know the real score. You figure out who wins.

It was only going to get worse until they got what they wanted. hopefully alot of damage can be avoided and they fail.

1000 planets to visit but only 80 to find something of intrests..most of the planet u can nothing do...
Daedrius Sep 14, 2022 @ 9:46am
Todd Howard did comment on the size of planets during the interview after the initial Xbox presentation. He was commenting on procedural generation and was comparing Skyrim's procedural generation to making a planet "infinitely big", which of course was just a term to describe the idea between the two, but from that you can probably imagine the planets are pretty huge.

1000+ We do not know for sure how many, except more than 1000. And it is yet to be revealed how many will offer nothing.

I think most will offer something.

It will be your story to end how you want. Or never end.

I think I gonna be conservative on this, it gonna be small and I bet you cant explore the entire planet, I dont even think you can fly inside the planet.
