Daggerfall: 8/10. Incredible in concept. Lacking in execution. Still an amazing game. I do wish they would revisit this scale of RPG.
Morrowind: 7/10. Mindblowing when it came out. As time goes on, I feel like age has not been kind. Today it's still great, but I feel like some kind of low-poly 3d mouse cursor gliding around clicking on enemies and NPCs, rather than a guy on an epic adventure. Still the best writing of any of the games.
Oblivion: 8/10. I was unreasonably excited for this game leading up to release. I feel like my unreasonable expectations were mostly met. I can find flaw with it, of course, but that doesn't stop me from having a good time.
Fallout 1 and 2 are not Bethesda games.
Fallout 3: 7/10. I love Bethesda's take on the Fallout universe.
Skyrim: 8/10. I have few complaints, but I'm getting tired of it after 10 years of re-releases.
Fallout 4: 7/10. Fun game. Story is a little lacking. Building mechanics seem a little half-baked. Still good.
Fallout Shelter: 0/10. Don't care. Mobile garbage.
Blades: 0/10. Don't care. Mobile garbage.
Fallout 76. ?/10. Never played it on principle. I hear it's decent now. Still won't play it due to it's multiplayer nature.
Starfield: ??? We'll see.
Daggerfall- 5/10 good game ruined by the fact that you could kill important people, therefore never being able to actually finish the game
Morrowind- 7/10 Decent
Oblivion- 6/10 from what I remember it was ok, but I don't remember much
Skyrim- 9/10 I enjoy it, I know others don't.
Fallout 1- ?/10 Never played
Fallout 2- ?/10 Never played
Fallout 3- 9/10 Best Bethesda game and Fallout I've played (though FO:NV ranks higher Fallout wise)
Fallout 4- 7/10 , would rank higher except for all the annoying settlement building
Fallout shelter- 4/10 it was ok but not enough to keep playing
Fallout 76- ?/10 never played
Most definitely nothing to do with Bethesda,
except for them getting their filthy money grabbing hands on the IP.
Now, from the ones I played or have attempted to play:
Morrowind 8/10 - haven't played it for over 10 years so it's probably nostalgia, but I remember it as my 1st RPG;
Oblivion 6/10 - more of a comic relief than actually good game, "shivering isles" was fun;
Fallout 3 7/10 - actually a decent game if you ignore the name and attempts at being an RPG;
Skyrim 1/10 - one of the worst games that I've attempted to play,
couldn't get past 10h mark.
Fallout 4 2/10 - had to force myself to finish it,
also marks the last Bethesda made game that I'll ever play.
The gunplay in Fallout 3 is atrocious, the levelling system in Oblivion is probably the most asinine in RPG history.
They are studio with great world building that rely on the modding community to make their games playable.
I mostly agree with this line-up.
I'd give Daggerfall 8/10 cause the scale of the game and what they've done back then was pretty amazing. I'm actually re-playing it right now with the Daggerfall: Unity to see what has changed, gameplay still holds to this day. The RNG dungeon creation is a bit annoying though, very large maps with random design doesn't make it as much fun of a dungeon crawl as, say Might and Magic 6-8.
For Morrowind I might even bump it up to 9.5/10. Aside from bugs and whatnot, the world design was amazing, story and the lore was a massive jump compared to all the other titles, It truly felt like a sandbox RPG with the freedom it gave you and, to me most importantly, you could do anything you want. None of that "Important character you can't kill this one whoops" ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ they do with the recent titles. They actually made saving and loading of the game part of the lore and whatnot, I was pretty impressed by that. I still wish they kept climbing and other skills from Daggerfall though.
Oblivion, I agree. The world leveling up with you is just plain dumb. Other than that, great side quests and the whole radiant npc stuff was amazing.
Skyrim is 6-7 for me. For everything they added they removed something. Most of them I can forgive but dumbing down the character creation and the leveling was just borderline a horrible choice. Modding made the game what it is today, the core game mechanics are still ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ dumb.
F3 is at least 7. I wasn't expecting them to be able to pull it off yet they did. It wasn't amazing but it still worked out.
F4 is like a 3. I hated that game, tried to finish it three times, failed all of them. It's just...it's the RPG version of Robert California's definition of the Black Eyed Peas (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AiI4lvRbLkU)
F76 - There's no ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ way I'm ever touching that ♥♥♥♥.
Morrowind 10/10 A classic and pinnacle of TES, too bad it aged noticeably
Fallout 3 8/10 Great for its time, though not as amazing as the original Fallouts
Skyrim 6/10 Better than Oblivion, but still not great
Fallout 4 5/10? Really not sure, never made it past mid game.
Oblivion 4/10 A huge step back from Morrowind, big disappointment, despite shiny graphics. Would have rated higher as a standalone game, and not part of the TES series.
F 76 2/10 MMO Shlock
Fallout 1/2 are not Bethesda games. Otherwise at top of list 11/10, true classics.
Fallout NV also not Bethesda, 9/10 best of "nu-Fallout".
Daggerfall I'd rather not rate, for its time it was awesome, but can hardly be compared fairly to the more modern games. Gets special prize for being a pioneer and for unprecedented number of options + player freedom. If the same concept were to be realised on current gen hardware/software basis, could have been best CRPG ever, too bad we'll never see it.
You really should, they're better than the new Fallouts on all counts except visuals. And there are plenty of indie games being released now with even worse visuals, so can't be that bad.
I mostly agree with that, but I'd rate Fallout 3 a 3/10, and Fallout 4 a 4/10. And I'd rate Oblivion a 6 or 6.5/10. And though Bethesda has since bought the Fallout IP, Fallout 1 and 2 aren't Bethesda games. They're Black Isle / Interplay games.
Bethesda games:
Morrowind- 9/10 Great game, especially the Bloodmoon expansion
Oblivion- 6.5/10 Great OST, hideous models, cheesy voice-acting
Skyrim- 4.5/10 too casual, barely enjoyable
Fallout 3- 3/10
Fallout 4- 4/10
Fallout 76- 1/10
Interplay games:
Fallout 1- 8.5/10
Fallout 2- 9.5/10
In conclusion, Bethesda isn't good at making games, and has never made a decent Fallout game.
Back in its day it was pretty damn awesome. Can't compare it with todays standards.
The freedom you had in that game for when it was made wasn't seen much elsewhere.
Are we now counting only the games which has been DEVELOPED by BEthesda Softworks/Bethesda Games studio, or are we counting everything published by Bethesda?
Because if it is the 1st, why are we having games like Fallout 1& 2 in the list?
If the 2nd, why don't we count/rate games like Wolfenstein new series, The Evil Withing, new Doom games, Rage ect?
fallout 1 and 2 have nothing to do with bethesda
yeah, he trollin'
pretty clever too
I don't think so. Lots of people just play games without digging into the background development of them, and many people just assume the Fallout series was created by Bethesda because they associate the Fallout brand with Bethesda.
Also, Bethesda has updated the Fallout games and their name appears on the Steam store page for them. So, people might consider them Bethesda games now, even though Bethesda had nothing to do with the Fallout series' creation and the first 3 Fallout games (1, 2, and Tactics).
But yeah, now that a half-dozen people have commented that Fallout 1 and 2 aren't Bethesda games, I'm sure everybody reading this thread is aware.
