Today I will review the game MOON :Remix RPG Adventure. This is a remake of a game made in 1997. Apparently this is similar on how you play the earthbound games in some respect. The whole premise is one of the reasons the undertale series even exists because Toby Fox was interested in this anti-rpg game. Yes, this game is not technically a rpg game, it is a anti-rpg game. It is like those reverse tower defense games that the player plays the creatures attacking the towers instead of being the players that are protecting the towers.

In this game, a child falls asleep while playing games while his mom wants him to go to bed. While falling asleep in front of the game, the child gets sucked into the game and becomes a character in it. He is not the hero, he is a NPC, or a non-playable character. In this respect, he sees the whole world differently than a "hero" would. HE sees the everyday lives of people in the game world, how they love others, what they do, and what creatures live in this world. This leads to what the player must do, save every animal, or what others may even call "monsters" from the hero. If you ever played Crusader of Centy on Sega master system, there is a part where the character becomes a slime where a hero attacks you. This is very much likened to that, except your not a monster in this game, but a npc basically.

By saving all the animals in the world, the player will gain love. Love in the world is strength. It allows players to walk around longer and live longer. There are time limits and if the player does not go to bed by a certain time, they will actually die and get a game over, so watch the timer. The while arrow is the players limit. When enough love is gained, the player levels up. By leveling up love, players can walk around more and explore more. The fact that players technically do not even kill anyone shows what a interesting rpg it really is to play. In some ways, it can be surreal and weird too. Some other npc's act very weird, and are quirky.

A great feature in the game is that players can set their own soundtrack. You go into the menu and on the left is a cd player graphic. If you find cd's, which you can find or purchase from burn, you can set your own soundtrack in the game. Anyways, here is my pros and cons list:

PROS:

- A anti rpg about playing a npc in a game.

- Find and collecting love. Can players find all the love?

- Ability for players to make their own soundtrack from different types of music. Some areas have fixed music, but most placed can be chosen by the player.

- Retro type graphics.

- This is not a fast game, nor a killing game. This is slow game where players take their time to smell the flowers.

CONS:

- Activating some of the quests can be confusing. There is a good guide here players can consult when they need help:

- This game is not for everyone. Many of the puzzles require waiting around or a certain time to activate them or certain times to talk to people. One thing required for this game is lots of patience. Many people do not even have that.

- The retro graphics is not for everyone.



Do i recommend this game? Yes, if you never played it. It is a experience, not a game. It can be considered artistic in some parts, and just zany in others. The story is anti rpg, so if players have played older rpgs, this story might be familiar when you encounter it in the game. So who is the real hero in this game? I guess players will have to find out by playing the game.

Favorite game I’ve played in a long time. Would call it a masterpiece if some of the 100% requirements weren’t so overly tedious but beyond that I have very little to complain about. Walking around exploring in this game listening to the moon discs is such an amazing atmosphere that I haven’t really experienced much like.

One of the most unique and thematically potent games i've ever seen. It is well worth your time to not just play but fully complete. Its world is like nothing you have seen before with lovable and interesting characters. While its story is relatively simple it is used perfectly for moon's themes. Its mechanics can be frustrating at the start but once they start to click almost the entire rest of the game starts to flow perfectly. Don't be afraid to use a guide at times either, while I don't suggest to follow one the whole way there are some sections or puzzles that require a bit more then just out of the box thinking, or rely on you having seen events that only occur at very specific points on the calendar.

One thing of note. Moon presents itself and people often talk of it as being an "Anti-rpg" and while that is true i think a lot of people stop there. While the game has so much more to talk about and its existence as an "Anti-Rpg" is mostly just set dressing.
