You can run them safely to 30%, Below 20% is a hard no. I've had a few failures on or around 20%
But, what you can do, is when your first engine gets to around 50 - 60%, use that engine for practice. Then use a new engine for quali and race. (you get better performance from newer engines)
That means you can run the first engine right down to the wire in practice. While keeping better engines for the race.
Probably more than half the time, i end up buying an extra engine in the season. But that will only happen later once your set allowance is used.
So you should be able to get the Season through, if not something special happens.
They recognize that in the game during practice though.
