We are starting off with Dune: Imperium and then will work our way through them :)
If the product sells then you add DLCs.
Of course they will lay out the foundation for future expansions but it'd be unwise to start with a much bigger investment without the certainty that the game will sell well.
Contrarily, many players who play with the expansions may be hesitant to purchase it until the expansions are released.
In any case, you'll have to purchase the base game to play the DLCs so... why not just purchase it to make sure expansions will be added? If the core game sells poorly what incentive the devs have to invest time and money to develop also the DLCs?
Also, the base game is perfectly fine as is. Sure, it would be nice to see the expansions added in the future, but myself and many others will be more than happy to just be able to play DI online. The "expansions or bust" crowd is not the majority you think yourself to be.
