Unable to play - mouse ineffective
Game seems to expect a controller. My mouse moves a cursor around the initial screen (where I should choose Solo vs Online play, or Tutorial, options etc.) - and buttons flash as the mouse cursor goes over them, but clicking does nothing.

Hey there!

Are you encountering this issue with other games, by chance? Let's rule out an update on Windows, and make sure Steam is running as "Administrator" (it could be that the game is running as admin). Also, please check that you have updated Steam and the Client.

Please let us know if that doesn't work! Then we can see if it is not case-specific (support@direwolfdigital.com)

I am experiencing the same problem.
Was there a solution?

If you have a joystick and/or controller,, try to disconnect it/them. After this, head to options and disable controller.

Same issue here. Had it with Root as well but turning off Steam Overlay fixed Root. It did not fix this one, however. I had to click repeatedly as quickly as I could over the Settings button until it finally popped up, then do the same over the Gameplay tab button, then once again over the Enable Controller Support button. None of my connected controllers actually was getting any response from the game so I don't know what it was trying to read from.

The game should have a launch option of -nocontroller or something to force it not to assume you want to use a controller with it.

Could you let us know if you have disabled the controller in the settings menu?

Do you have any controllers plugged in by chance?

If you are seeing the icons light up as if the mouse was over them and you can't see the mouse cursor, that's a symptom from using a frame generator (like Lossless Scaling). You might have to look into your graphics card options.
