Analog stick deadzone fix/workaround
For anyone having trouble adjusting to the uncomfortably large deadzone on the analog sticks, this can be greatly improved upon using the Steam Input controller settings:
  • Open Steam controller settings > Edit layout > Joysticks
  • Select "Right Joystick Behavior" or "Left Joystick Behavior" depending on which you wish to adjust
  • Change "Deadzone Type" to "Custom"
  • Set the deadzone minimum to 0 if it isn't already there (my left joystick defaulted to 22)
  • Enable "Show Advanced Deadzone Options"
  • Increase the "Anti-Deadzone" slider to a more comfortable value
I'm using 20013 on the right stick and 1641 on the left stick. Hope this helps someone. Kudos to Valve for such a great feature.

Used DS4 windows to see if it was just a steam issue and the exact same thing happened.
Seems it is just borked programming that has buggered up the deadzone for controls. Wonder if it is happening with xbox controls as well.

I'm wondering if maybe they adjusted the deadzones for the Nintendo joy-cons and shipped the changes to all platforms, lol.

Went and tried out P5 on the ps4 and it also has huge dead zones as well but it was more smooth to move the camera and walk diagonal so maybe it just needs some adjustments.
Wonder if there is a config files that can be messed with to lower the dead zones.

I don't understand where to look for specific settings. There are a million similar features here!
Can you explain in more detail, without changing the words of the settings? :caster_sad:

The steps and setting names should be exact, but only for Steam Deck and the Steam Beta client. The stable release of Steam on desktop hasn't received the new controller UI yet, so the process and names of the settings are slightly different.

The setting you want is called "Output Anti-Deadzone" in the old controller layout settings. Alternatively you could opt in to the Steam Beta client and use the new UI right away.

Thx!
This was driving me nuts!
Thanks!

Something weird for me was the camera not really moving diagonally, but changing the deadzone to a square helped with this issue. Along with the stuff in this thread the controls feel much better

You could try changing the controller sensitivity to about 75% in the game options, this helps with the character movement a bit but doesn't help the camera like at all

The camera is what drives me crazy. Every speed is too slow, but on the fastest speed I can't tilt it just a little, it always moves to fast, lol. I can't get a comfortable setting down. First World Problems.

I'm not familiar with Game Pass, but if you're able to add the executable to Steam as a non-Steam game you should be able to use Steam Input. Just remember to launch the game through Steam each time.
