The 8 Summoners
This is how I currently see each summoner.

Druid - Can be very card-efficient and flexible, especially due to her farshot, has plenty of burst if needed, has plenty of poison cards available thanks to nature and her squirrel can distract the enemy in the meantime; just an all around useful summoner.

Conjurer - With powerful multi-unit summons, her ability can be extremely effective at dumping a huge load of power, and skeletal legions are strong! Sustainable and effective, though burst is somewhat limited by lack of range she can still compete in this regard. Possibly the best at brute force by just dropping overwhelming numbers and eventually winning. Not that you won't need every camp/marshmallow you get, but if you have some HP and a few multi-unit cards it seems like she always stands a chance. Hiding in a corner and letting your units run out to solve the problem is a viable strategy.

D'Orc - All I can say is I only needed a single campfire per chapter on my first playthrough, plus a retry because I got careless due to his strength; honestly he might actually be the strongest, but not sure. Think I'd rate Druid's balanced strength and conjurer's brute-force victory potential higher, at least for now.

Pyromancer - Her farshot is incredible for dealing with masses, and her spellpower fantastic for burning away the bigger dudes; can end some fights with just her farshot like the druid, but not as flexible. Also FIRE! Personal favorite for both her fashion style AND her playstyle.

Archmage - His draw effect is incredible for tempo, just be very wary of running out of cards... If you go full draw you may lose XD but it's worth the experience. Has greater potential for sudden minion power drops than conjurer & more burst potential than pyromancer, but with lower card efficiency due to reduced power. If you drop 2 satchel air elementals pre-boss, then with the right deck and good luck you can *theoretically* first-turn kill a boss. Assuming you reach said boss with their key and a campfire available.

Elf Guy - Not the best at dealing with crowds, so bring a bit of AoE AKA Time Bomb is your friend! Incredible at taking down the larger targets, however; Trixie recommended guardian for that sweet counter prevention. Also card that doubles base power, super speed, & bonus attack are a great anti-boss fun build. If you haven't tested bonus attack on golden dragon yet, it does work on him because while it IS a spell it's also just a 2-mana melee attack.

Ice Queen - Tough to use well, but freeze is a pretty strong effect against small amounts of tougher enemies; not so great against a lot of 2 or 3-mana units; shatter solves the bigger non-summoner problems, AoE solves the smaller ones unless you ran out.

Battle Mage - Was kinda tough to use at first, but I can now no-death/retry clear an adventure with him if I try (AKA hardcore); he's pretty good at messing enemies up without getting too messed up himself thanks to his knockback; no such thing as a bad summoner, even though I'd rank him lowest.

If you're having trouble getting the 'lone wolf' achievement, I did it with conjurer. Playing on novice still allows you to get the achievement, so you should probably make it easy on yourself unless you just want a real tough experience. I tend to lose my guardians frequently with conjurer, so it didn't affect me much. Starting to think I should use more ranged guardians with conjurer so I stop losing them so often, what with all the great meat shields I have available with conjurer. Keep ending fights with a near full HP hero even when I started with no guardians and still have plenty of cards at the end.
Or you can use D'Orc because D'Orc stronk and no need think too hard.

I won without using a single campfire or any retries (Did use a fairy heal once though).
Granted it was on novice, but D'Orc man stronk & like I said I didn't use any retries. Think his power might be 1st place after all. Though I couldn't have managed if you didn't get a full restore after each chapter.

Hey mr.kitty! I enjoyed your write up so much, and I have another player who also recently shared some great insights on the Summoners. I wanted to post a link to their analysis as well so we can compare/contrast notes and come up with some great actionable changes together:
