Correct me if I am wrong, but it sounds like you are picking up the items and manually putting them in the storage? If so I can help clear one thing up. When you go to put items into your shed, or from shed to backpack, if you hover over the item with the cursor (big hand) you can use the right directional button on the D pad to deposit a single item. Use the left directional button to deposit a entire stack. It will stack it with existing items ( unless you have the upgraded shed and anything in the other tabs, it's a work in progress) that are already there, or create a new stack if the item doesn't already exist there.
As for the pet following and not following button, ya that is broken badly. It is not just you.
Edit: Ok I went in to mess around with it some more. It is not a fix, but it is a workable solution until the controls can be worked on.
To interact with your pet to follow/not follow do this. Move the hand icon over your character, wait a second for it to disappear. When it does don't move it, you should see a orange box on the ground. If you walk up to your pet and have him in the box the button (press down on left joystick) should now work for you to set follow or not follow. I did it consistently with no issue a dozen times. When your done you can move the hand icon again wherever you want.
Great info. I've been switching to mouse and dragging the stacks to the arrow and that auto drops a stack onto anything already there. You can probably do that on controller too but it's more awkward. Using D-pad will be easier. I'm guessing there's a tool tip there and I just never took notice of it.
