I wanted to play this game...
As stated above, I really wanted to play this game. However, the controls are so bad!!!!!!! So I can't go in and out of a building using "x" unless the prompt appears on screen? so I basically have to keep moving around in front of a door until it appears and only then can I go into a building. Same issue with the chick following me. Now I can't get it to stop following me or to stay in the coop! All because the "prompt" which says press this button to have chick follow or unfollow is not appearing on the screen EVEN THOUGH I AM PRESSING THIS BUTTON REPEATEDLY. Is it just me really? I'm having a lot of weird issues like this all to do with controls that are making things that should be simple into an unending nightmare. It is thoroughly ruining the gaming experience for me.

Hi Cat - It sounds like a bug, I hadn't heard this reported before. If you could record a video and post to the discord ea-bugs it would be really helpful https://discord.gg/cornucopia Are you on a steam deck, or using a controller (which brand) - If possible use KBM until we can figure out what's causing the issue - Thank you

Thank you for your response. I'm not super tech savvy so I don't know that I'd be able to record a video. I was on PC when this happened. I noticed in your patch you mentioned making controller support a priority. I appreciate that as I'd like to get into this game as I see how much content has been implemented and how regularly it's being updated. At present, however, the controls feel extremely non-intuitive for me and I am fumbling around constantly trying to figure out how to do basic things. Even making the primary action button "a" or "b" instead of "x" would help a great deal, as I've never played a game where "x" is the primary action button and it's a constant frustration. The other thing I found extremely taxing is that there is no button to add existing items to storage, which for me means I have to painstakingly put each and every item I want into storage from my inventory. Idk if this has been patched yet, but the last time I played I noticed I also had to select a slot in storage to move an item from my inventory instead of just clicking on the item in my inventory and it automatically going into storage into the appropriate slots assuming I already have the same item in storage. In the past, this meant unless I went to the extreme effort of making sure each item in my inventory went to the already existing stack in my storage or else I would have to just select a new slot. You can imagine if you have a lot of items in storage how difficult it might be to "find" the already existing stack of an item you also have in your inventory. Otherwise I appreciate the work that has gone into this game, I just want to be able to enjoy it!

Correct me if I am wrong, but it sounds like you are picking up the items and manually putting them in the storage? If so I can help clear one thing up. When you go to put items into your shed, or from shed to backpack, if you hover over the item with the cursor (big hand) you can use the right directional button on the D pad to deposit a single item. Use the left directional button to deposit a entire stack. It will stack it with existing items ( unless you have the upgraded shed and anything in the other tabs, it's a work in progress) that are already there, or create a new stack if the item doesn't already exist there.

As for the pet following and not following button, ya that is broken badly. It is not just you.

Edit: Ok I went in to mess around with it some more. It is not a fix, but it is a workable solution until the controls can be worked on.

To interact with your pet to follow/not follow do this. Move the hand icon over your character, wait a second for it to disappear. When it does don't move it, you should see a orange box on the ground. If you walk up to your pet and have him in the box the button (press down on left joystick) should now work for you to set follow or not follow. I did it consistently with no issue a dozen times. When your done you can move the hand icon again wherever you want.

Great info. I've been switching to mouse and dragging the stacks to the arrow and that auto drops a stack onto anything already there. You can probably do that on controller too but it's more awkward. Using D-pad will be easier. I'm guessing there's a tool tip there and I just never took notice of it.

I created a thread to get feedback - If you want to let me know what you think about the new core controller layout scheme I'm brain storming, it's the third post in this thread https://steamcommunity.com/app/1681600/discussions/0/4335357045502708111/ Thank you
