is sleep optional?

so i am really digging this game, i got a lot of good stuff to say and i am SO looking forward to any future updates, but i don't know if sleeping required? i was lost out in the forest and i expected to pass out and return home but i never did? are there any actual repercussions to not sleeping? or did what i encounter was a bug?

(please let this not be an actual bug so i can stop stressing about rushing to bed LOL)

No sleep is required. You can stay up as long as you want, no penalties. At 3 am the screen will go black for a second while it switches the day, that's it.
