The game doesnt use enough system RAM
So, a little thing I and some guys on a discord noticed: The game doesnt really use more than 9GB of ram.
It sure does use VRAM, but system RAM usage is very low in comparison to other games and the system requirements.

Ofc if a game cant use as much RAM as it has to, it would run slower and also stutter. Like all games when they dont get enough RAM.

Would be good if SE could check on this.

I have noticed the same thing. I was averaging just over 8GB of Ram and i have 32GB. Turning off VRS, lowering cloud and fog seems to have smoothed out framerate for general traversal and light combat but areas in Praenost seem to cause pretty bad stutter and have weird pop-in.

Not about the game using the ram, it's about the total system memory utilization when you start upping settings.
8gb vram sounds like enough until you find out the OS can use 1GB or more.

My system's desktop ram use is around 8-ish to 9 without any browsers open. with the game running im hovering around 16-18GB.

Then there's the whole "Low ram, time for pagefile" situation where your framerate will be crap all around.

If you go over vram limit im pretty sure it just kills performance across the board due to the constant swapping, that's assuming the game is stable and not crashing.

I could be wrong. it's been a while since i didnt have enough resources.

So, since the recent acknowledgement of the issues by Square, Im gonna bump this.
I know this issues doesnt affect all people, but a very high amount of people that I asked. So its a real problem.

Let's also keep in mind your RAM is the "pagefile" for your VRAM.

I'd say it's also the complete opposite -- the game *overcommits* too damn much addresses from Windows even though it never uses it. And when the system runs out of addresses available (as a result of the page file not growing quickly enough) *bam* crash.

The latest patch in particular exacerbated the issue for me -- it's insane how crash prone the game is nowadays on my system (32 GB DDR5, 12900K, RTX 4090).

I can run and do basically nothing in the game and in an instant the game executable randomly terminates with neither an error message or other recognizable crash.

Edit: Windows isn't even recognizing it as a crash either... Just random closing to the left and right...
