Better than GOG's?
Just wondering if there's more here than the DOS-Box'd version that Good Ol' Games has been selling?

Basically controller support, subtitles and smoother backgrounds plus some bugs and glitches which weren't present before.

The GOG release runs in ScummVM with subtitle support and many (optional) story and gameplay enhancements.

Read the user reviews on the Steam store page for your answer. The remaster seems to be poorly executed and buggy. Buy this game on GOG since it has the OG version. GOG's OG version seems to actually use the ScummVM adventure game engine source port, NOT DOSbox. (This was never a DOS game to begin with, BTW. I played this back on in the day under Windows 2000. It uses the same voxel graphics engine that powered C&C: Tiberian Sun.)

Is the GOG version easy to map to game pad using something like ReWASD?

Some old stuff like Omikron will never be mapable because the devs forced broken game pad support, in-game, which can not be turned off or ignored by hooks.

It's a point & click adventure game, so VERY mouse use heavy. How well this maps, I dunno. Try binding the mouse pointer to an analogue stick axe and it'll probably be quite playable, if I were to guess.

The GOG version is bundled with the remaster, which does have native gamepad support, so you do get options at least.

Whoever is buying on GoG currently - ̶B̶o̶t̶h̶ ̶E̶n̶h̶a̶n̶c̶e̶d̶ ̶E̶d̶i̶t̶i̶o̶n̶ ̶&̶ ̶O̶r̶i̶g̶i̶n̶a̶l̶ ̶r̶e̶-̶r̶e̶l̶e̶a̶s̶e̶ ̶a̶r̶e̶ ̶i̶n̶c̶l̶u̶d̶e̶d̶ ̶t̶o̶g̶e̶t̶h̶e̶r̶ ̶&̶ ̶a̶r̶e̶ ̶n̶o̶t̶ ̶s̶o̶l̶d̶ ̶s̶e̶p̶a̶r̶a̶t̶e̶l̶y̶ ̶n̶o̶w̶ ̶(̶a̶n̶d̶ ̶o̶n̶l̶y̶ ̶v̶i̶a̶ ̶G̶o̶G̶)̶. You don't have to sweat about missing either.

Edit: Enhanced Edition comes with the GoG release on Steam now !

Further Edit: For those complaining, you can also now buy the original GoG re-release separately (on GoG).

I wouldn't even try that since the original game doesn't have gamepad support from the beginning. It's a point and click game anyway, and trying to shoot things with a gamepad will simply kill you.

Ever since the game support in ScummVM engine, then the GOG release bundling it all of this is available and sadly goes unnoticed all the time...

Currently we have complete English, French and Spanish subtitles support.

Just download the small file here for the subs on the OG version :

Edit : Thanks for the post award, very kind & hugely generous! :)

I just realised this, this is very disappointing. I was hoping that it was gonna be what Omikron could've been.

Ha, this answers the thread entirely. Thanks!

no, stick to GOG. I have it and it's great.

I am a GOG fan and think exclusives on other services help build competition to Steam (which is good), but for Nightdive's reputation, they'll probably want to look into bundling the original version with this one.

The game was made with consoles in mind. They couldn't use the source code that was made for it to work on scummVM because open source apparently doesn't fly on consoles, so they said screw it and half-assed it for console release and a big middle finger to the platform who's actually going to pay attention to it.

No one on a console is going to see a game from the 90s and say " I Want to play this so bad."

Why i cant find the older gog version anymore? Did nightdive ♥♥♥♥ everything up by bringing down the better version now?!
