Putting from NOT the green?

I tried this game last year, and I either couldn't figure out how to select my putter when I was on the fringe just outside the green, or you just couldn't do that. I think you also couldn't select certain shots depending on where you were.

Is that still the case? Or can I switch to whatever club I was to use wherever I am, and use whatever kind of shot I want?

Correct, can only Chip/Pitch/Texas Wedge from the Fringe. (Chip 50%, Pitch 75%)

I take that back..you CAN Putt from the Fringe, but you do not get Aim Point, or Distance Point. Where you cannot Putt from is the Fairway or First Cut

its a small progression to be able to use putter from off the green.. its not a big deal to earn the points for the skill/

wrong. You can use putt from the fringe even at zero putting points. You cannot use it when it's not even in the fringe.
Unless you get texas, which is a must get anyway you don't want to have 0 skill in put and have huge squares that won't allow you to see breaks.

Get 3 points on putt and you will be fine.
