Have you tried using a pro with very high short game skills and see if it happens again? Even if the RNG may land your ball (by hitting exactly two same shot) let's say just 3-4 feet longer or shorter, there actually may be a strong inclination where one ball lands, and the other doesn't. Landing the ball on downhill of course will give it a big boost to roll, while if it land uphill of course it will roll less. Terrain has been scanned and is very realistic, this is why some game mechanics we have never seen in the past, I play too golf games since early 90s.
