PSA: Steam Deck Launch Workaround
New patch prevents the game from launching in gaming mode. Just run it from desktop mode until this gets fixed. Less than ideal but you can play again.

Thanks. I was wondering what was going on.

That's odd.

Gaming mode never stopped working for me.

<EDIT> It doesn't work. It was working yesterday. I wonder what changed. Did they release another update or make changes server side?

In order to fix the issue click on the cog to the right hand side before launching the game, then go down to ‘Developer’ and select ‘delete proton files’. Then launch the game, the EA app installer will install again and but then it works fine.

This worked for me. :violentcrime:

UPDAtE: It worked once. Still broken. EA App is garbage. A hostile parasite.

This worked. Thank you!

EDIT: Works once and then has to be done again. Also wipes all config settings you have set up when you do this. Desktop mode still the best way to go

Works once, have to redo it everytime I want to play. Not a fix, temporary work around at best

The game won't even start installing for me. What am I missing?

was just coming in to edit my previous comment with what you said. Desktop mode still works best in the meantime. I think I've narrowed it down to the gamewindow not being prioritized after the EA app launches in the background. Happens on desktop mode too but can be fixed by setting one of the back buttons as the windows key to show the taskbar and then clicking on the icon for the game in the taskbar.

To permanently fix this, you have to choose to do an app restore in the EA app.

I'm away from my SD, so some prompts may be off...

At the oops screen, choose to relaunch the app.

In the EA app, click on the three dashes in the top left of the screen.

Under the Help menu, choose App Restoration (?)

Close the app by clicking on the X in the upper right corner.

Once you are back at the Steam Menu, relaunch the game.

You'll have to relaunch the game a couple of times (?)

The game should eventually successfully launch and continue to launch after that.

This doesn't work either. It relaunches the ea ap and asks you to log in but you can't fill in the fields with touch screen or keyboard/mouse

Thanks, Harvester, but I think this is doing essentially the same thing as deleting the proton files. And like deleting the proton files, it only works once… at least that’s how it was in my testing.

Guess we’ve just gotta be resigned to launching the broken game with the broken launcher from the amazing Steam Deck desktop mode. GG EA, you rock as always…

Try bringing up the touch screen keyboard and leave it up as you type with your keyboard/mouse.

After typing in the username, exit out of the touch screen keyboard and select the password field. Then repeat bringing up the touch screen keyboard and then type in password with keybaord/mouse.

I seem to remember doing that.

Also, try using proton ge-55

Good luck with it.

<EDIT>

I forgot to mention another work around:

If you have another PC on the same wifi as your Steam Deck, use it to log into you EA account and leave it logged in while you try to launch the game on SD. The EA app should auto log you in instead of asking for your Username/Password.

Are you using proton ge-55?

I think all others will only work oncee as you say.

BTW, Something me a couple of friends have noticed with all EA games having launch problems:

As the EA App is being redownloaded look at the download progress bar.
If it is being filled in with boxes then everything is OK.
If it is being filled in with a solid line then you are using the wrong proton and it will launch once and then it will fail to launch from then on.

We have no idea why this is so .... but it does. And it saves time trying to narrow down the right proton to use.

Hope this helps.
Good luck with it.

I guess I will have to wait till EA gets their act together before I buy this as I will only play it on my SteamDeck. I have no idea how EA can be so incompetent when it comes to their software
