But on the store page all it says is Online Coop and Online PvP

Career mode IS single player. And yes most likely it is online only to prevent cheaters and file tampering/hacking.

I remember 2K's "career" mode which wasn't, that's why I'm asking since it's EA, they like pushing the online aspect nowadays.
And I don't see why I would need internet if I want to play single player only, but that's another issue.

It isn't only EA, also Ubi, MS etc. Although they can better control multiplayer cheating (being online) this is more to prevent piracy and as a result it's the gamer like you that suffers. We're in a weird era of gaming dude.

A lot of people are misunderstanding the question. What the OP is really asking is; does PGA Tour require an online connection to play? 2K Sports golf game does, no matter the game mode, and it's really annoying, their online service is so unstable and so when it is you can't play.

Always online for a game which includes singleplayer, is an automatic pass.

There is a growing sense of this across games, but until it truly impacts sales, greed will always come before any concerns for customer satisfaction.
