If I had to guess, there were either issues they ran into, or development of this version started before 6.12 was released as LTS.

Because. That's all that's needed to be known.

Will Proton ever get 3dfx Glide support?

My guess is that because SteamOS is a rolling release, they won't be staying on any kernel version for long. There is no benefit for SteamOS if they've already tested extensively on 6.11.

It's not rolling release though; it's just based on snapshots of a rolling release distro. Steam OS updates are full system images and sometimes there's month between releases on the stable channel.

I'd think 6.12.x has had a lot more extensive testing than 6.11.x in the wider Linux community at this point but maybe they're still dealing with some patches that aren't upstreamed yet. Or maybe it's just a case of valve-time and it probably doesn't really matter either way. I just thought it was curious.

It is rolling in a sense that once a new version of the operating system is released, the old one stops being supported.

When will indie developers get the same treatment as AAA developers in terms of games that are verified and tested on Steam deck? It's been years and it's getting pretty old
