Thank you Valve for allowing us to fix our own Steam Decks, and not requiring us to send them in for a repair or whatever like MS, Sony, and Nintendo do (if it's still under warranty, that is) - we can fix our own Steam Decks like our own PCs (as long as parts are in-stock...); thanks again for that decision Valve! (No; I'm not being sarcastic, despite how it sounds)...

I love repair culture. I wish more products were designed for user repair. Thank you.

It almost like Valve knows we would do whatever we wanted anyway, Instead of pointless roadblocks.. we get bridges. No amount of free games beats that.

How confident could I be in your product, when you are advertising repair parts before the product has even been released?! 😳🤔😐

Glad I’ll be able to work on it when I need too

Of course, it is now crucial for a purchase that individual parts are interchangeable. My concern was that if something was broken or badly worn out, I would have to send the unit in for an expensive repair. That makes my decision easier. It was a very good decision to plan for that from the start.

why don't you release the .STL files so those with 3D printers can print our own. just make the required licensing specific enough that certain individuals can't capitalize on it.

Or Valve can address the issues directly in their manufacturing..?

But glad early adopters have repair options. Would be nice to have a send-in option for those of us to squeamish to open up the unit ourselves.

Well that would be nice if it were true. Sadly you can all but by the plastics and nothing else. No board, no functional components. Nothing in stock. No chance to repair anything.

Now that I own a Steam Deck if at at some point if I ever need to replace something I'll (hopefully) be able to acquire it; then replace it with the guides that they have online... Woot! Again it's badarse that Valve sells this stuff and trusts that we users can fix them (if we follow the guides they provide I take).

I can confirm that Valve uses normal Phillips-head (crosshead) screws on the back of the Steam Deck, so opening it to fix it yourself doesn't require a screwdriver with an unusual bit (e.g. spline) or an Allen-wrench (hex head - granted that's not too unusual). They are also not "tamper proof" (e.g. like a hex head with a small pin in the middle to prevent a normal (non-"security") Allen-wrench or other screwdriver bit from fitting)...

The screws are kinda small and will require a small electrician's or eyeglass' screwdriver to properly fit. You'll also probably want to make sure the screwdriver has a really nice "new" (unused or non-worn-down) bit on it, so it won't slip and damage or strip the screw heads.

I hope that information helps out... I haven't opened mine up yet so IDK if ALL the screws are the same size and bit-type (Phillips/crosshead) but I assume and hope that they all are the same - it doesn't seem like Valve is that lazy - it is a really nice piece of hardware (it's a freakin' handheld PC w/ a controller built on, very amazing piece of technology)!

Shouldn't Value be providing new parts direct rather than expecting the scrapyard of broken decks to do it?

with this you're probably better off buying all the parts and building your Deck... because Valve is never shipping the damn things. :bo3lmso:
