Steam Deck

DO NOT BUY THE OFFICIAL DOCK
I swear i love the Steam Deck, it’s pretty much the only thing i play these days, but the official dock is absolute ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥, literally every other time i restart the steam deck or switch to desktop/gaming mode, it completely loses signal, like you unplugged it and it no longer detects that it is indeed connected to a monitor, so you have to unplug the HDMI and plug it back in because unplugging the USB-C from the Deck does absolutely nothing at all, not even a flicker of life. And sometimes unplugging the HDMI and plugging it back in doesn’t even work and you have to start unplugging everything even turning off the Steam Deck again to try to force it to even attempt to work.

Absolute ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ product
Mine is in pieces from slamming it on the floor 20+ times because ♥♥♥♥ this thing.

Have you tried with a different dock? I know sometimes the SteamDeck can be buggy when it comes to docked mode, if it happens on other Docks too it might not have been entirely the fault of the official dock.

I would've also suggested trying it out on a laptop or other dockable device to see if it gives the same issues there but you say you smashed it so...
Don't tell me what to do.

Pics, or it didn't happen. ;P
Seriously, bummer you have a crap experience. I'm thinking about getting a dock so it's good to know others' experiences.

But seriously though, pic's or it didn't happen. :P

I have the same experience unfortunately. The steamdeck is awesome, but the dock is garbage. I have to unplug the power cord of the dock every time, when I want to use it, otherwise I don't have any video signal to my LG TV. Tried different work around and settings to no avail. Every other dock, player, laptop... You name it, works flawlessly.

I really dont get why the Dock is so underdeveloped.

Its buggy as hell, sometime the usb ports dont work, sometime the monitor. you have to restart, reconnect most of the the to get it to work.

aside from that gaming mode is missing even the most basic options for docked mode.
why cant i change my keyboard layout? maybe mindblowing for steam dev, but not everyone in world is using an qwertz keyboard.

i honestly dont know whats wrong here, steam deck is selling well, company is doing good and this official device feels like a 5€ wish knockoff.

Connecting to monitors is actually quite complicated. You have so many political committees that makes your life miserable. Montiors vendors only testing a few GPU or devices and just release firmware with bugs. Most consumers just do not care about making the world sane. They look at HDMI and do not think too much about it.

Linux community do not get as much political help from these orgs. In fact, they are known to sabotage Linux.

64 GB deck is pretty harsh on the deck. The worse mistake Valve ever made.

Hello @XargonWan, some of the discussion on #794 is relevant here. In particular, Whether the OS should support running the desktop with any arbitrary locale and language. Here there are more considerations, one of them (not the only one) is that we would need all translation files for all packages, in my computer that's more than half a GB worth of files in the root filesystem. from #794 (comment).

After Valve ♥♥♥♥♥♥ it up with 3.5, I found that an EDID emulator works as a workaround. One that emulates FHD, that is.

Ive had 3 docks, 2 Jsaux and the official, both the Jsaux docks work perfectly
