Steam Deck

Steam Deck

Max resolution when using the Dock in Game Mode is 720p. Is there a way to go higher?
I can't select a resolution above 720p when using the official Dock in Game Mode.

Has anyone found a way to select higher resolutions without having to change to Desktop Mode?

Thank you.

I have the same problem, assuming you're talking about selecting a resolution inside the game's own video options. The workaround is to go to the properties of the game before launching and select Native resolution.

Nice, thank you!

Even setting to native caps me at 1080p. I have to manually select 2160 on every game while I'm docked. It's obnoxious. This is with an OLED Deck and the Valve official Dock, fully updated.

I think doing that is the way you are supposed to do it. I don't fully understand why yet. I guess there must be a technical reason, but it's really annoying.

I read this post a while back and was concerned that the official dock would have compatibility issues with current 4K TVs, but decided to take a chance and buy one anyways. I bought an OLED Steam Deck in July of 2024 and the official dock in September 2024 and I have had no issues connecting it to my LG G4 TV via HDMI cable. Setting the resolution & refresh rates in-game or via the Steam UI both carried through to the TV without needing to tinker in configuration files or launch the game in desktop mode.

Just wanted to share in case other folks are hesitant about the official dock as well. Since there are a few of these kinds of posts, it could simply be that the dock isn't compatible with certain TV brands.
