Steam Deck

valve deck dock vs jsaux
hi! i need to get a deck ordered asap and i was wondering if there's any real benefit to buying the valve one over the jsaux one on amazon. there's about a £40 price difference so it does kind of matter ahaha i tried asking in fb groups but it gets lost in the posts. i'm also a little skeptical of using unofficial docks for any device since the issues with nintendo switches getting bricked.

Do you want to use your dock with HDMI or Displayport?
My official dock has some problems to display my steamdeck content on the monitor (sometimes no picture -> reconnect the dock to the deck). On the other hand, a USB-C hub with HDMI does not have these problems.
The Displayport connection should not have this problem.

i would just be using hdmi as i'd use a tv with it.
In this case, and because I do not have a jsaux dock, I can only say that with an official dock, you have to get up from time to time and reconnect your deck to the dock.

Do you? I don't. When my one is docked, it works perfectly.

Don't cheap out on a dock.

I used to own a JSXAUX dock and got rid of it. Not even because the cradle isn't molded to fit the Deck (it's a bit loose in there) but because the USB plug isn't molded to fit the Deck, meaning the USB receptacle itself has the mechanical load. Valve's Deck is molded to fit the Deck perfectly.

It's a minor gripe though. As long as you don't intend to carry the Deck by the cable or do something else that's obviously dumb as ♥♥♥♥, that shouldn't matter much in practice.

Getting another computer to update the firmware of the JSAUX dock is a major product design fail though. They explicitly design it for a PC that's delivered with Linux and yet, they require a Windows PC for updating their dock. Despite everything else working, it's just so painful to have a product the designers of which give so little ♥♥♥♥ about their customers' actual use case.
