Steam Deck

Steam Deck

When docked Steam Deck should use auto low latency mode on compatible TVs
The input lag on my TV when the Steam Deck is docked is noticeably worse than all other modern devices (PS5, Xbox Series S and a Windows gaming PC with Nvidia GPU). All these devices use ALLM and my LG TV pops up a notification to say this.

Steam Deck does not, and the input lag is more apparent.

Will ALLM be supported when docked?

I could be wrong, but I think ALLM is an HDMI 2.1 feature, and the dock is HDMI 2.0.

I just looked it up and you’re right. Oh well.

Hopefully Valve can do some other stuff to mitigate input lag because it’s pretty bad on Steam Deck when docked.
I only experienced input lag when I forgot to turn off motion smoothing in my TV settings, only used a ps4 controller though. No issues with mouse & keyboard, but that's using a logitech bolt dongle. Also for some stupid reason, my TV had 2 different menus where motion smoothing options appear. The quick menu, and the settings menu, disabling motion smoothing in the settings menu didn't seem to do anything because the motion smoothing settings in the quick menu was still on.

The input latency might be an issue with the steam deck's own bluetooth connection.

Motion smoothing is off for me. First thing I checked when I noticed ALLM didn’t switch on.

Similarly to you, I have a Logitech 2.4hz keyboard with trackpad and after testing I can confirm that has no issues.

Latency seems to be Bluetooth. So I guess some sort of 2.4ghz wireless controller might be the way to mitigate this.

You could also try disabling the frame limiter. I've experienced bugs with the menu where the settings for the options reset, even though it appears that you have the setting toggled to have it disabled, I have had to toggle it on and off again for it to actually turn off.
