Steam Deck

Steam Deck

Dock suddenly stopped working
My steam deck no longer recognizes an HDMI being plugged into the dock. I used it last week, and now the screen is no longer going black when plugging in an HDMI into the dock.

Attempted restarting the deck, trying in desktop mode, three different monitors, four different HDMI cables (All four are working with other devices) Unplugged everything and waited 10 minutes to reset the dock. Verified no updates available. Reset the refresh rate to default on the deck. Tried with and without power cable to the dock. Steam deck doesn't seem to recognize that an HDMI is plugged into the dock, Don't have any third party docks to test. Posting to see if anyone else has suggestions or is experiencing the same issue.

Having same issues here. My dock stopped working this morning as well.
Update, still not working. Have tried switching between stable and beta channel, tried using safe mode, rebooted all of the times. Considering a factory reset but I don't want to re-download all my games

Don't factory reset. You should try another dock, perhaps at a store or a friend who has a work laptop that came with a dock for it? Any usb-c dock can be used, the Valve dock is only unique in that it is shaped to also be a stand and has a displayport output that doesn't work on my system.

But, if you have drive space, you could always make a clonezilla backup of your drive, factory reset and if it still doesn't work, then you could restore the backup then you wouldn't have to download stuff again.

I think it's the dock though.

PS. Did you try 'External Display Safe Mode' in the developer settings?

Same to me, suddenly it stopped working at all, not even the USB ports

For me it seems to be the steam deck itself. Ive tried the same dock with another steam deck and it works perfectly fine.
@sunspark, Thank you for the suggestions, I was waiting until I go to a friends house this weekend to try another dock. I do have a usb-c to HDMI converter I tried that did not work. I've never used it with my Steamdeck, but it does display for Windows 10 PC, Windows 11 laptop and Debian Bullseye Raspberry Pi. Steamdeck screen didn't change to black when plugged into it, and in desktop mode it didn't recognize a second monitor.

Unfortunately all my monitors either don't have display port to test except one and the display port is broken. Might test it on a work monitor with Displayport though just to see if it's only happening on HDMI.

Thought I mentioned External Display Safe Mode, but that did not work either =(.

Same happening for me with the official dock, was working fine recently no issues, went to try again and nothing.

Only thing I noticed with mine is it's making some sort of small attempt to connect whenever I restart it, their is a small second during the restart where the input does refresh on the tv and it tries to work and then doesn't.

Anyways, guess it's time to bug valve about it.

Are you guys on 3.4 or the 3.5 dev channel that changed the dock firmware?
The author of this thread has indicated that this post answers the original topic.

Switch off the auto resolution and changed it to 1920x1080@60 instead on the deck. Problem solved.
